Personal Narrative: My Response To Waffle House
On Thursday, November 12, 2015, at approximately 0333 hours. I responded to Waffle House, 1170 West Avenue for a disturbance in progress. The caller advised Conyers Communication that a verbal altercation had taken place. They then stayed the subject left in a silver pickup truck towards the Motel 6, 1351 Dogwood Drive.
As I patrolled the area, I noticed a silver Dodge Ram, Ga tag CCN8347, had left the Waffle House parking lot. The vehicle made a left onto Dogwood Drive and continued towards the Motel 6.
I followed the vehicle Dogwood Drive and initiated a traffic stop by activating my emergency blue lights. The vehicle came to a stop at the Motel 6 and I made contact with the driver. The driver identified herself as Kenyatta Benton.
I explained to Benton the reason for the stop and asked for her driver's license. I inquired Benton’s license information on GCIC and she returned with a suspended license as of 04/15/2014.
I placed Benton in custody and handcuff her hands to the rear of her person. I then searched her person and no items were on her person. Prior to placing him into my patrol unit, Unit # 83, I searched the back seat area and determined it was clear and safe. I then placed Benton into my patrol unit and secured the seatbelt on Benton. I then transported Benton directly to the Rockdale County Jail where I turned her belongings over to correctional personnel. Before going back in service, I rechecked the backseat of my patrol unit and determined it was clear.
Benton was issued citations for driving while license suspended O.C.G.A 40-5-121.
