We knew we had a chance, we knew we could do it, it was a matter of when. This was one of those moments for most people that when you are in it you don’t realize how big it was until your out of it, but we weren’t most people.…
I walked into the doors of Statehouse Expo Center, my feet walking with the sound of my bag rolling over the little cracks on the light floor tile, my white uniform as crisp as a fall breeze. With every step further, I could see more people. Lots more people. The mats filled with people. People who spend their whole lives working to be where they are, on those mats. Sparring, combat, weapons and forms. XMA in one corner, Black Belts in another corner, everyone else in a corner and staging in a corner. All surrounded by a Sr. Master or the occasional Master. When we get to a tournament, our team always meets up. Then all the kids go explore. We found our team and all the kids put away their IPads and Kindle Fires.…
Dad said midnight and unless Darrell could fly, I was headed for real trouble. Darrell and I chose to go to county fair and like every cliché couple, we had it set to go at sundown in order to get the perfect Instagram post. Luminous pinks, yellows, and blues sparkled a mile out as we caught our exit to enter the fair grounds. Vibrations under our toes grew heavier and heavier as we got closer to the entrance and with a $12 stamp on our right hand we ventured out on running feet. We spent our night soaring high and low with dangling feet, carrying weightless bags of fluffy, crystallized sugar as heavy gusts of wind hosed us leaving the aroma of fresh, crisp funnel cakes. Captivated by parading aisles of games had us lose complete track of time.…
I remember the day vividly: the sizzling of food frying, children yelling, my tears running, it was the first time I adventured to Six Flags. The uneasiness of my stomach while swaying tens of feet from the ground on the Texas Giant petrified the adventurous spirit out of me. However, I did not realize that moment `would shape the next eight years of life, emerging in my memory at every unfamiliar experience I faced. It was my senior year when I declined an invitation to go camping with my friends an epiphany struck me. How many of these opportunities was I going to skip out on due to my reluctant manner?…
Hi, I was going on a trip to Maryland and I want to know if you will come with me. My sister, Dad, and I was looking for places to go and there is an extra bed. The reason I picked you is because there are great places to eat, Amazing parks, and the Boardwalk.…
I came to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall. I suffered from depression my junior and senior year of high school. I was never officially diagnosed, because I lied to every therapist my mother sent me to. I could not be honest with anyone but myself at the time. However, I thought things would be different when I came to college. I thought I would be able to open up to people again, but I never anticipated that I would get worse. I thought college would cure me, for some reason. Ironically, I got even worse my first semester in college. My previous burdens added on to the pressure of getting good grades, being involved on campus, and trying to make friends. It was all too much for me. It also didn't help…
One day, while I was laying peacefully on my bed, my mother came in with a letter from Florida A&M University. I didn't really want to speculate anything because a few days before I received a letter from another college saying that I wasn't accepted. Nevertheless I was still excited when I opened it and even more so when I read that I had been accepted. So without much hesitation I packed up and headed to Tallahassee. When I arrived my mother and I took care of registration and a plethora of things you have to manage as a new student. After all the hassles of college registration were completed my mother departed for home and I was left by myself to attend college. What a great feeling! Little did I know what I had on store for the next day, my first in college.…
My family and I went to Georgia for my grandpa’s funeral. We slept for a couple hours in the car. Everyone slept for like 2 hours until we stopped for things like pop, food, and bathroom. We had McDonald's on the way back. Everyone got a pop and a few breakfast burritos. On our way back we stopped at a winery in Tennessee. We looked around and we went inside and it smelled like grape. When we returned from our trip to Georgia everyone was tired and went to…
This year in the beginning of August My family and I went to Springfield IL. for the Illinois State Fair. We were going to show our excellent show pigs. When we got there it was about 10:00 P.M, and it took us about thirty minute to set everything up and get the pigs in their pens.(compound sentence) When my family and I were heading home, we stopped at Casey’s. I got Prarie Farms chocolate milk and Chewy Sprees. The we began our hour ride home, and I was looking forward to the next day.(Compound sentence)…
I have been to the Alamo Ranch location on numerous of occasions. Everytime I enter the store I'm welcomed by friendly associates that are always willing to help me with ever I need. The store holds a wonderful energy that just makes my creativity flow when I'm trying to pair up an outfit. Overall, my experience with the store was amazing. This morning was the morning I had been waiting for ever since we heard about the science fair. I put my name, Liam, and my friend’s name, Ben, on the sheet confirming that we were attending the science fair. I walked to Ben’s house, and he came out with our smoke machine.…
I was so excited, I had never been to Tennessee before. It was my first time being more than three hours away from home. The drive is usually three hours, but we stopped at a relative’s house on the way there, which added three hours to the drive. Therefore, the drive ended up being six hours. We were going to Tennessee for my sister's softball tournament. We had just arrived at our really nice hotel. I could not wait to go inside and see what is was like. In my eyes, the hotel looked like a castle, also viewing this from the eyes of a six year old.…
First, Last weekend on Sept.14, 2013 me and some friends went back home to Memphis to go to the southern heritage classic. It was a very long and horrible, but funny weekend with my friends. We had a wreck it may not seem funny, but the way it happen is, we was racing a car in a two lane zone trying to get over, but about time we tried to get over we couldn’t because of this car that stopped in front of us. We had just left to get something to eat and all of my fries flew out of my hand and out the window into the car that was next to us.…
