When approaching our topic at the beginning, each member of our group took a different lens, mine being an ethical lens. Unsure of what side we were taking, we found research supporting both sides of abortion. Being such a controversial topic, there was lots of it. Using the ethical standpoint, my main focus point was how abortion violates human rights, for both the mother and the unborn child. I found both articles and pictures that represented what I was looking for. After our group further discussed our research question, we decided to take a pro-choice stance, and argue for the mother's rights, using multiple lenses such as ethical, social, political, and religious. Finding enough research at times was hard, because it’s mostly opinion based articles and there are not many proven facts to support either side.
Once we all found enough research to support all our ideas, writing the actual paper was quite easy. We all …show more content…
participated in writing a detailed outline, describing each of the paragraphs we were planning to write. Each of us took two or three paragraphs to write. By using this method, we finished our paper very quickly, giving us plenty of time to go through our paper to edit it and create a flow from paragraph to paragraph. This also gave us all time to read each part of the essay so we understood all of the lenses and not just the lens we focused on ourselves.
Once we finished our essay, we moved onto creating a power point and speech.
We wanted to include a number different slides in our power point so we were constantly changing the slide. This was so that the viewer always had something to look at so they were not bored and didn’t lose interest. We practiced our speech multiple times so that we felt comfortable when we actually performed it, and so that we could get all our information across in the time constraint. It was important to us to present all the information we had in our essay to the audience so that they had all the information possible to help our argument make more
sense.
Working on this topic with my group really helped me gain a better understanding of abortion and helped me to change my viewpoint on the situation. I enjoyed working with my group because we were all always on the same topic and we all understood what we needed to accomplish to create an interesting presentation. We worked together well and we all did an even amount of work. This was helpful for all of us because there was less stress and we never worried about if we would finish our project on time or not.
