Abortion: a Pro Choice Essay
Takeera Barfield 10/25/12
Comp & literature Pro.Burger ABORTION-PRO-CHOICE ESSAY

As American’s and women we have the right to freedom and independence, with that concept, I believe that our government needs to trust that women have the capability to choose what is best for their future. Our society should respect women’s independence and grant them the freedom to decide what is right. This issue is important to me because history has shown that restricting abortions, not only undermines women, but can also be very dangerous. I believe that a woman should be able to abort under reasonable circumstance and during a certain time. A woman has a right to choose, No one should not be able to control what a woman does with her body. By granting women the right to choose, this does not permit her to kill, but to decide what is best for all persons involved. Many situations show that abortion may be the best for the parents and the unborn child. Situations such as rape or incest prove that it is not the woman’s fault and not fair to the mother or the unborn child to pay for it. There are other situations such as if the mother carries a disease it can be passed on, or if the parents are unfit to raise a family at the time. Any case however, should be between the two individuals involved and not the government.
In the past, there have been many cases when abortions were restricted, and women went ahead to find other ways to get it done. Women had to have abortions done in unsafe alleys by complete strangers. By legalizing abortions, it has made conditions much safer for women. I think mentally, it has strengthened women in many ways;

    Hillary Clinton once said, "I have met thousands and thousands of pro-choice men and women. I have never met anyone who is pro-abortion." This means that even though pro-choice people don’t want to completely rid the world of abortion, they still don’t necessarily like it. Morally, abortion is wrong but at the same time the choice should still be available to those who choose not to be pregnant in their present moment in time. It is a right to be able to choose for yourself what you want to with your life, and that’s what choosing to have an abortion is. The right to your choice should not be able to be taken away by strict enforcers of The Bible or morality. Before abortion can be completely stopped all factors must be considered because every person and their story is different; so knowing why every person would want an abortion is near impossible. It’s easy to simply declare abortion wrong and move on without giving it any thought. For these reason the option of abortion should be left open because ultimately opinions come into play on what may be right and wrong.…

    The debate over whether abortion should be legal and to what point in the pregnancy it should be allowed has polarized many societies. Many religious preach that at the moment of conception, the new life is human and possesses a soul. Therefore, abortion is murder. Other, less extreme views, suggest the life is not human until there is a recognizable "completion of form." A third view proposes we have an obligation to create a good life for all children already born before we bring more unwanted children into the world.…

    One of the most controversial issues today is the topic of abortion. For many years people have been debating over whether abortions should be legal or not. There are two sides to this debate. Those who are pro-choice, do not think that a fetus is a living human being yet with a right to live. They believe it is entirely up to a woman to choose what she does with her own body (Being Pro-Choice). Those people who are pro-life argue otherwise. They believe that abortion is wrong and should be made completely illegal. I am one of them people who are pro-life. Having an abortion is the same as killing another human. It is inhumane, it is a sin,…

    The human body is amazing. It can protect one from sickness, harm. It can create beautiful art or fantastical inventions. It can surpass impossible limits. The human body is amazing. It’s amazing and it can create life. But, we, as humans, can take away that life. Humans can inhibit a person from moving forward. Humans can stop a person from feeling happiness or wholeness. And all because we, as humans, make abortion illegal. When abortion is illegal, it restricts a girl or woman from living the life she deserves. When abortion is illegal, it shows that a group of fellow humans love a forming bundle of cells more than the person standing before them.…

    It is hard to find a single definition for the word “abortion.” Dictionary.com states that an abortion is also called voluntary abortion and it is the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy. However, google states that an abortion is defined as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy. On the contrary, Merriam Webster defines an abortion as a medical procedure used to end a pregnancy and cause the death of the fetus. Just reading these definitions begin the argument of whether or not abortion should be legal and if it is “morally” right. Abortion has become a popular topic of discussion across politics and within churches. Although both sides have valid arguments, it is up to the woman carrying the child to decide whether she will keep the child or not. No government, nor religion should force someone into making a decision they weren’t fully supportive of.…

    How would it be like if you weren’t allowed to choose what happens to your future? Some women do not get the luxury of choosing for themselves due to some laws set and they do not get the option whatsoever. That should be different as women are the ones who carry the babies, not the ones who are voting against it. Even though the baby never had the chance to live life, women should have the right to choose what they want to do with their baby because it may be bad for the women herself to have to care of a baby, they may not be prepared for a baby, and we do not know their circumstances of the situation.…

    First and foremost, abortion allows a woman the right to her own body. Some say that abortion should not be used as a form of contraception, but birth control fails daily. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 6% of all birth controls fail each year. Women on birth control tend to disregard the chance of getting pregnant since the percentage is so low, therefore, the only protection they choose to utilize is the birth control. Women should remain to have the option to abort an undesired fetus. Along with contraception issues, there are other factors to reason with to keep abortion legal.…

    I feel as though women should have the right to decide whether or not they would like to have an abortion. Having to go through numerous trials to see if you are mentally capable of having an abortion is really unconscionable interference. There are many factors that contribute to why a mother-to-be would have an abortion. She could have been raped or not be financially ready to have a child. I 100% agree with women wanting to have one. There should be no ones opinion into her decision, if she wants to have one it should be solely her decision.…

    Abortion will forever be a topic of interest to millions of people because with a topic so vast, people will always find something to pin point. Whether it be their opinion on when a fetus becomes a human or whether or not the procedure as a whole is ethical. What in particular interests me about abortion is the blatant discardation of so many answers to frequently asked questions. In today’s age, we can easily access information and facilities such as schools with aims of teaching, are essentially useless to anyone who can access the internet. Abortion is a very controversial topic, and people have mixed views about this, but we should keep in mind that there are positive outcomes to legalizing abortion. The government has been placing certain bans and restrictions on abortion, but the government should leave the abortion option because abortion is for the woman to choose not the government, it prevents child abuse and neglect, and it prevents illegal abortions. For these reasons and those that follow, the government should not have the right to illegalize abortion.…

    Before abortion was legal, it was common for a woman to go to an unlicensed doctor to receive an abortion. This doctor would not use proper medical supplies and many women were harmed during this. Some women were even killed from how much the doctor damaged them. With abortion being illegal, women who desperately needed an abortion had to seek unsafe ways that only harmed them in the end. Abortion being legal has given women the opportunity to get an abortion if they need one, while protecting them also. Abortion being made illegal could cause the death or permanent harm of thousands and thousands of women. Most people would not want that on their hands, and nobody wants someone to go through the loss of their mother, or having to grow up without a mother if the abortion failed. What Facts About Abortion states that now “..abortion is one of the safest medical procedures out there”. If abortion was illegal, it would not longer be considered safe and we would have the guilty of denying women their rights and putting them in much more danger than they were in…
