Nearly 1.1 babies in the U.S are killed every year (Abortion Facts). Imagine the reason for this. Many people do not realize that the cause of this is abortion. According to American Heritage’s definition of abortion, an abortion is the deliberate termination of a pregnancy, usually before the embryo or fetus is capable of independent life. The Catholic Church has long held the view that abortion is not only immoral but also the deliberate killing of life at the moment of conception. The Church is pro-life and teaches abortion is wrong and should be avoided at all costs. The fifth commandment states, “You shall not kill” (Ex. 20:13). At the moment of conception life begins. By performing an abortion one is taking the life of an innocent being, which ultimately is committing murder. Murder is the ultimate sin as it goes against what God called his children to do. Humans were created to procreate in love and through marriage. Although many pregnancies are brought up without love and marriage, it is still a human life and should be respected no matter what. The arguments of the pro-choice party consist of the option to be able to end a pregnancy if one desires to. Reasons many people support abortion include topics such as rape, financial problems, health of the mother, and incest. According to amplifyyourvoice.org many people argue that the government should not have a say in the medical procedure one partakes in whether it be abortion or something such as a kidney transplant. A woman should have a say in whether or not she wants to follow through in such a big change within her own body. The Church however disagrees fully with pro-choice supporters. At the moment of conception a life is created. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches under no circumstances a life should be taken away by another being.
