Personal Narrative: Never Giving Up
Never giving up in tough situations can really bring you far. If you persevere. If you think it through. If you know what might happen if you don’t continue on with what you are doing. As a matter of fact, I was put in a few situations where I was about to give up, but I didn’t because I thought it through and figured out what I could accomplish if I continued. For example, when I was hunting.

One time was when I was just about ready to give up while practicing with the bow outside on the deck, I kept missing. I shot one arrow way far to the left; and the next one way far to the right. It was like when I shot, something moved the target to the left or to the right. I walked down to the target to retrieve my arrows that had been hiding in

He saw that my bow and arrows were scattered everywhere on the table out on the deck. “I can’t shoot!”
“What do you mean?”
“All of my arrows go into the grass and not the target. If there was a game and the point was to miss the target, I would totally win that every year.”
“I can help you, com’on.”
My dad and I walked outside and we sat on the deck for at least two to three hours, perfecting my shot. My final round of shooting I shot ten out of ten into the target and 4 out of those ten were directly in the middle. BULLSEYE.

Another time was when I was out hunting with my dad. There were no deer whatsoever. It was dead silent, not one branch snapped and not one leave crunched for hours. It was like there was nothing on Earth. You could hear the air whispering at the trees, telling the leaves to fall to the ground. And I could see my breath as I breathed in and out. “Can we just go home dad? Im freezing!”
“We will soon

I started packing my things up as I watched out of the corner of my eye, my dad shaking his head at me. And then that’s when I heard it.
A twig.
A leaf.
Another twig.
I looked to my right, behind my shoulder, and a big ten- point buck came walking right underneath the tree that we were in. “Dad!!!” I said, quietly. “Dad look.”
I pointed towards the dear and his eyes followed my finger. We needed to stay quiet so the deer wouldn’t hear us. The deer looked the opposite way than our tree and I carefully and quietly pulled back my bow. The force of the bow almost brought it back to the start as I pulled on it. Finally I got it all the way back. Boom.
The arrow flew through the guide of the bow and straight into the dear. The deer jumped and slouched its back like a cat does when it gets scared. My arms were shaking, my hands were shaking, my whole body was shaking.
I had just killed a deer.

As you can see, never giving up in those tough situations really did bring me far. There are many more memories that I could have told you about, and I’m sure I will encounter more and more in my daily life. Us as humans, can’t just give up on things that we think we will succeed in. And now I know

Around 5:30 p.m., when things were getting “just right,” O’Brien heard a noise and saw the back end of his deer heading in the other direction! He thought for a moment that the hunt was over. Robin Hood splitting his opponent’s arrow is one of the most iconic movie moments in 20th century cinema. However, until recently, archery lived on as a niche sporting market usually reserved for hunters. The interest in Archery as a recreational sport has steadily risen over the last decade. According to Jim Idema, the release of movies such as “The Hunger Games” has spurred an influx of teenagers and young college students to archery ranges across the country (1). Many of these beginning archers simply rent…

I felt the stock of my bow while I was sitting in the blind. Frost had already began to form where I rubbed it off seconds ago. I looked through the small window at the everlasting snow. “Wait, was that a deer moving along those trees?” I asked myself. It looked more like a kangaroo making its way through the snow. I could barely stand up in the cold. I pulled back, ready to take the shot.…

My breath is soft and slow, and the only thing that I can hear is the faint howling of the wind. I pull back the string and wrap my fingers around the arrow. I aim and let loose. The arrow flies and hits right on the target. Archery is one of the things that I live for, as well as soccer and listening to music. My culture is what I do on a day to day basis and what is a large portion of my life.…

I had used the entire quiver and had not even hit the target once. Sylvanas had walked up to me, retrieved my bow from me, collected my arrows, and let loose on the target, hitting every shot fired. I tood in awe at her performance, her unrivaled expertise, kneeling in front of her, I had asked her if could have personal lessons with her, For I thought that the lack of people would help improve my focus. Sylvanas and I had grown very close during the time in which she trained me, and after a time of intense training, I ascended to the rank of ranger lieutenant, and was almost as good of a shot as her.…

I should’ve known something was wrong when the dear fell into the road on my way to the top of the Roan. I was driving along the rough road up the Roan, when out of nowhere, what appeared to be a yearling doe fell from the top of the Plateau and started running at full speed down the mountain. I assumed the doe had gotten a late start and was trying to catch up with her herd, but it had a primal fear in its eyes that I thought was brought on by the unexpected sight of me in the truck. This was odd because deer aren't…

I was about 140 yards from the green on one of the hardest holes on the golf course. I took out my 7 iron and swung a practice swing. I started to think about all of the tips my coaches had given me. I stepped up to my ball and aimed straight towards the flag at the center of the green. Every stroke counts the same in the game of golf, so each swing needs to be done with care. I swung my club and felt good contact on the ball; I knew that the ball would fly strong, but I didn’t know just how favorable the result would be. The ball flew as straight as an arrow to the green, bounced a few times, and I heard it drop right in the hole from 140 yards…
