Personal Narrative: One Direction
With sweat drenching their bodies and taking deep gulps for air, five young men sling their arms over each other’s shoulders and take their final bow. The crowd’s cheers erupt into shrieks and tears; for they have just witnessed the boy band One Direction perform live in concert. My screams too, can be heard throughout my house as I watch this video on YouTube vowing to myself that one day I will see One Direction in concert. I make this promise to myself, as my screams then morph into tears of joy and longing as the members of One Direction exit the stage.
One of the things that I love in people is personality. All of the young men in One Direction bring something to the table that I just love seeing. With his shimmering blue eyes and bodacious

“Sometimes quiet is violent,” those words ring into the teeming stadium as thousands of zealous fans sing along. One of those fans happen to be myself, standing in the middle of the pit of people. Two shadowy silhouettes exist on stage; one on the piano and the other on the drums. Then suddenly the lights flash revealing an immense sign labeled Twenty One Pilots. Tyler Joseph on the piano, and Josh Dunn on the drums. Tyler only concentrates on the piano, barely letting the singing crowd impede his focus. Josh is coated in a thick layer of sweat, as he gently strikes the cymbals, just enough to give an ominous feel. As the middle of their song, “Car Radio” approaches, Josh asks Tyler to sit in a chair. Although we want to cheer, conversely, we watch in anticipation, as Tyler obscured by a white sheet, just barely covering his scrawny body. Abruptly, Josh removes the sheet, and Tyler is gone.…

Two years ago, on a cold Saturday morning, I prepared for my first ever track tryout. I took a shower, put on my clothes, and got into the car. On my way to practice, I felt strong physically, but I also had an undefined, jittery feeling about how the day was going to go.…

Now this is where I`m supposed to write “all about me”. This is where I become lost. I mean, come on. I wouldn`t know where to start. But I guess the best way to have an idea what makes me tick and what ticks me off is by checking my journal that i fill with endless ramblings about whatever and whoever catches my fleeting fancy or rage. :)…

Growing up with divorced parents from two radically different cultures was at first difficult. My mother’s family was from Peru, while my father’s was from Bangladesh. In my young mind, there was an internal struggle with what my identity actually consisted of. I wasn’t wholly from one culture or the other, and felt like a black sheep when interacting with either side of my family. Due to this, I attempted to keep these cultures partitioned. At the time, they were different portions of my life that simply couldn’t intermix. This mentality in turn led me to foolishly shy away from my joint heritage. I kept myself enclosed in a box, blind to the beauty of my surrounding culture. However, as time progressed, I knew I had to make a change in my understanding.…

During my time in high school, I have been apart of Band which included Marching, Pep, and Concert Band, Cross Country, National Honor Society, I was a Junior Class Officer and planned prom, and Musical Stage Crew. I have also done quite a bit of traveling in the past few years, traveling to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, France, Spain, Monaco, and Italy. I have a lot of interest in experiencing and learning about new cultures. As for community activities, I am a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters and visit with my “little brother” once a week to spend time with him.…

Since I was a wee little kid I have always loved ‘90’s music, I particularly liked the boybands . It doesn’t help that my mother was once, what many call today, a fan girl. My first CD player was gifted to me at the age of seven, and it never left my side. I had quite the CD collection too, which included: almost every Disney movie soundtrack (This was around the time I fell in love with High School Musical), Clay Aiken, N’SYNC and the Backstreet Boys. My father, other the other hand, hated ‘90’s music. He was more into rap music. If he was still a part of my life today I imagine that he would constantly be scolding the so-called rappers ‘Wiz Khalifa’ and ‘Kanye West’. He liked the good rappers like ‘Tupac’ and ‘Notorious B.I.G.’…

Finally after waiting in line for three hours, my cousin and I were next in line to meet Fifth Harmony. I was so excited and nervous. Walking quickly up to their security guard Big Rob, I gave him a high-five. Now walking into the room, my mouth dropped. Everything was in slow motion to me. Camila, a member from the band grabbed my arm. She asked me what my name was. Stuttering I said, “Ma-Ma-Makenzie” in a shaky voice. She wrapped her arms around me and called me her best friend.…

I know music. There is not a single important memory I have that is not tied to a song, a genre, or an instrument. I met my first best friend through EDM and for my fifteenth birthday I received my first record player. Long, mundane car rides with my dad remind me of classic rock on FM radio, and the memories of my little sister loving pop music since she was old enough to crawl will forever have a special place in my heart.…

I’m , and this is my Music Identity. Usually, I listen to Music to make myself happy. That is the case, with this song, Glorious, because when I listen to it, I feel good and determined. I’ll often listen to this song at the end of a busy day, or when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I listen to songs like this a lot, mostly because of how they put me and a good mood, and push me to do my best. Usually, to lift up my mood, I use upbeat songs like this, and I always feel better afterward, no matter what’s going on. This is one of the many reasons why I listen to Music, and why I chose this song.…

I am intrigued by the music industry major at Drexel because I e always dream of a career in the music industry. I've heard nothing but great things about this program, which gives me reason to believe that it's the best place for me to develop the skills and prepare me for my future. In order to prepare myself for this major, I invested my money into recording software for my computer. Using this software I've been able to record my own music and practice mixing and mastering tracks. It actually all started out as a hobby, but I grew so passionate about it I knew it's what I wanted to do with my life. I began researching recording arts and other similar majors to find the best program for me. That's when I came across the music industry program…

I’m pretty much angry every day and it’s pretty much always for the same reason: My Chemical Romance. I first listened to MCR when I was 11 or 12. I heard a song called Cancer while creating a playlist on a website called 8tracks. My friend told me to put the song on the playlist so I did. It was a playlist inspired by The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The song was a sad one and I didn’t really look into them much further because I already heard a few other songs (in passing, you could say), and didn’t like them too much. One song I know I heard when I was younger, but didn’t like, was Teenagers, a song I relate to now more than when I was 11. I guess I’m angry at them because they broke up, but I guess I really can’t be mad at that because…

At five years old my mom enrolled me in my first dance class. Every day I had so much fun and I danced until I was twelve. I experienced many struggles throughout my years of dancing, on most nights I would walk out of dance barely able to walk. Dancing was so much fun that I was determined to power through the pain and to not stop dancing. At about nine years old, I broke one of my bone tumors in my knee. I do not know how I did it, but I continued to dance on my knee. I did not know my tumor was broken until I went to the doctor and got an x-ray. The surprise in my doctor’s voice when he saw the x-ray is something that I will never forget. It was the first time he saw a broken tumor. After the appointment, I sat out of dance for a week and…
