Personal Narrative: Outdoor E. D.
It was the day of 5th grade Outdoor E.D. and I was excited. Outdoor E.D. was where the students travel to a hill or forest and play games outside in groups all day. Every 5th grader from Blackberry Creek Elementary was being drove to LeRoy Oakes in St. Charles at the beginning of a new school year. We all were divided into groups of about 20 kids and the fifth graders were wearing our blue Outdoor E.D. shirts. The day started off well because I figured out I was in a group with my best friend Faith. Us and our group was directed to the bus with the others and we headed off to a day of games and nature. After an interesting game, my group and I headed to the next one right before lunch. I dragged my black bag while we walked from how tired I was. …show more content…
"It seems interesting," she replied. We sat down on the grass and listened to the adult helper explain the game. It was called Baseball Balance and the goal was to balance a ball while going up and down hill. There was a short pole with strings coming out that we held while the adult put a ball on the top of the pole. If you beat the first challenge they put a larger ball on top and, if you lose control you start all over again. I could tell the competitive were interested. We started to play and the first time there was lots of failure. Once we understood it, we became more determined to go further into the game while the teachers took pictures. After about 7 minutes, my teacher suggested "Maybe you're able to beat the high score!" as she took more pictures.
"I know what I want to do now," I then spoke.
This was our last challenge and we had a small playground ball on top of the pole. You could easily knock it off so we tried not to take our eyes off of it. It fell off many times, but I was almost to the top. I just had to move a little closer and we could beat the other team.
One step closer. I was almost

My role was to supervise the children taking part of this activity and help them to learn to kick and throw the balls to one another. I first showed the children how to throw the ball and then asked them to each take it in turns and throw the ball to me, so I could show them how to catch it. I also used this same method to show them how to kick it towards someone gently so there were no injuries. I followed advice from my supervisor as they said to use a small group of children to do this activity. The support from me helped the children understand what they had to do and then when they had a problem they could come to me for help. The children did understand what I was…

I was already ten years old and I still couldn’t find a sport to enjoy. I always ended in failure. “I suggest you try soccer, Carl. It can’t be that bad,” said my dad. The first season of soccer wasn’t that bad because I never got fouled.…

I sat there in disbelief, I couldn’t believe my new teacher was forcing me hike a trail and then write a essay about it. But I had to, so I decided to hike the Indian Hill trail, besides I had heard positive reviews about this trail by my friends. The leaves were just turning hues of gold and yellow, I stepped out of the car and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t freezing cold My mom yelled after me, ‘’Be safe.’’ I ignored her. So I started to hike up the trail it was nice, I usually hiked in the Adirondacks so this was a pleasant change. Hardwoods are different than hiking in the pine forest of the mountains, for one thing on this trail there was only a slight incline where as in the mountains the trails…

I will always remember the kids that were playing there and I think that some of those kids would go to the mlb. So me and my dad finally arrived at the ballparks and I then rolled my bag over to where my team was staying. I then slowly walked over to my team and began to greet them. My coach looked really familiar and he was bald and wearing these shaded glasses. I also remember one of the kids named Derek who went and tossed with me in the grass on one the fields we were by and every time he went up to bat he would use a wooden bat and he hit very well in each game. We then played 2 games, one against white and one against gray. It was very funny playing the white team because Johnny, Logan, and Nick were all on that team (they used to be on the same team). Anyway, my team did well and we won against white team but lost to the gray team. I was ⅗ as an average in each game. So now on to the exciting part. The very next day, there were these challenges that everybody did called Golden Arm, Base Running, and the Homerun Derby. I decided to do the Golden Arm and the Base Running. In the base running, I didn’t do so well (the guy in first was a minute faster than me), but in the Golden Arm, that is a different story. So basically you had to stand in front of the mound and…

Everyone has their own community or organization for which they belong to. Within that community you tend to find who you are and what you are about. For me I found my identity in being an outdoors man. Being an outdoors man at my young age seems to be rare at this day, but that doesn’t prevent me from doing something I love and appreciate. Growing up with my family full of avid outdoors men helped influence me and only made my identity stronger.…

I’ve always wanted to be good at something. Writing isn’t one of them. Hiking however, let’s say I’m confident that I hover somewhere above the line of Intermediate. Good enough to survive high elevation glacier treks and overnighters at least. As a hobby or extracurricular activity, it’s probably my biggest passion. So much that I found that writing of them is like having the opportunity to do each one over again. Once upon a time I set forth a book project, a story telling, you might say, of all my treks including the ascent of five mountains. However, I lacked the confidence of presenting a way to share my stories of me being the key subject. Eventually the project lost steam and fell to the wayside. Even so, I enjoyed reliving each one while writing of them, and, I continued to set goals and hike. Putting myself out there in high open meadows or deep forest of the Cascades has given me a fresh perspective of my everyday world. Forget about football, baseball or sports in general. Forget about housework, yard work or for that matter work itself. Actually, my accommodating career generously facilitated this hobby that at times takes ample time and expense. Therefore, we can’t forget about work. Nonetheless, the introduction to hiking has gotten me off the couch and into the…

I walked out of my dad’s car, then carried my bat and glove to the field. “Oh boy, I really hope we win this game!” I thought to myself with a determination. I could smell the familiar aroma of the dark green grass mixed in with the salty aroma of the soft dirt as I entered the field. The teams of third and fourth graders started to warm up for a little while before the game started. The umpire said, “Play ball!” and…
