Personal Narrative: The Ambiguity Of John's Death
You stumble across a cemetery and impulsively decide to take look around. Once you step inside, you immediately notice hundreds of tombstones scattered around. You take a long breath and move tentatively around knowing you have walked into the valley of death surrounded by silent souls. You look around and see the hollow eyes of death, smell the coldness of death, and hear the silent whispers of death. Tombstone after tombstone you wonder if that woman had a sister, what that young boy died from, what the old man did for a living, or why that young girl deserved to die. Tombstone after tombstone you suffocate in sorrow. Tombstone after tombstone you decide to maneuver your way out of the cemetery, but the smell of death sticks to your skin …show more content…
However, if all facts need be to dated, then we are back to square one and still need to determine when death is horrible. In that case, I stand with Kagan in stating that “death is bad for me when I’m dead”2. In my opinion, even when one ceases to exist, death can be awful on the premise that unawareness of what you are being deprived of doesn’t mean that you are not being deprived. Imagine there are two twin brothers, one brother, James, is immensely rich, among the 1% of wealthy people and the other brother, Jack, is James’ personal accountant. Jack steals about $5,000 from his brother every year for the past 10 years knowing James will not notice the missing money nor will he be suspicious. Indeed, James does not notice the subtle fluctuations in his money for the past ten years and is not in any way suspicious of Jack because he trusts Jack dearly. In the end, the James is being deprived of his money, whether or not he has no ample knowledge of it. This is to say that even in death, where we no longer exist, we are still being deprived of the very essence of life and living whether or not we are aware of

As time passes and as the world shifts, people pass away and they never come back. People who are left on the world, now without the others’ presence, must live with knowing they will never get to see them again and that now all they have left is the memories of when their loved ones were still around. Judd Mulvaney has the realisation and through it, the reader is able to see how he is caring and innocent. His naivety is something not to be ashamed of, nor is it something that he should keep. He must learn about death in order to move on and live life to the fullest of his own potential. From here, he can treasure each step, each moment, and each breath, knowing that he only gets this one shot to live. And he…

As my younger cousin, Travis, walked into the living room of my house, he looked for interesting things he could look at and touch. He started to slowly walk toward the broken, bottom half of our entertainment center. My siblings and I, enjoying our Thanksgiving dinner, watched him carefully as he curiously reached for a handle of one drawer in the entertainment center that contained at least 50 movies. He was so close to opening it when my brother exclaimed, “Careful there! The last guy who did that… he died!” Travis slowly backed away, turned around, and ran to his mother, but the real question is Who died?…

In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, John’s identities are influenced by two opposite societies, and even though he tries to prove his manhood and change the framework of brave new world, he can’t gain real acceptance from anywhere. John’s mother, Linda, is from the brave new world but gave birth to him in the savage reservation and her different behaviors based on the framework of the brave new world caused John’s isolation in the savage reservation. John decides to move to the brave new world and becomes popular in this society, but his identity, influenced by his “savage” culture, can’t be accepted by the community. His conflict with the brave new world finally forces him to try to change the framework of the society, but his attempt is futile because it goes against the stability of this new environment and leads him to suicide.…

Death is inevitable; People are all going to die at one point. Kagan in his book asks whether there is life after death. Since death comes after life, it paves for life again or is it eternity. Kagan thinks that death can be, and very often is, bad for the person who dies (and this is so because death deprives that person of the goods of life). However, Kagan denies that death is not bad. It is reasonable or appropriate for people to fear death. Kagan claims that only if people have three conditions. The first is the object of fear is bad. People are fear of death because of the badness of death. Death is defined as a bad thing because if people died, all things will not exist. If a person does afraid of one thing, the thing must be bad. Put…

I threw the paper down, and sprinted out the door. I turned down the hallway to the nearest staircase. My feet thudded on the wood, and my hands slid up the banister. I ran to my mom’s office, and burst through the door. I stopped. I looked around and saw an envelope on the rustic, wooden desk. I jogged forward, and picked it up. On the backside it read: To Rose Hansel. Before I can do anything else, I hear the phone ring downstairs. I carry the envelope with me back through my house to the kitchen. I interrupt the ringing by picking up the phone.…

It was a typical Saturday morning in the Williamson household; I had woken up around 9 am and eagerly rushed upstairs to be greeted by the scent of hash browns cooking on the stove. My dad was standing by the stove and immediately swung around as he heard my footsteps, saying, “Oh, hello libes”. To clarify, “libes” is a nickname that originated from me making fun of my dad’s attempts to speak Spanish, there’s not much of a story or significance behind the names except they have stuck for two years now. Anyways, I casually answered my dad, “Oh hola libes”, and proceeded to approach my phone sitting on the nearby counter. I didn’t notice at the moment, but my dad was scowling as he watched me focus my eyes on the plastic screen as I checked my…

I completed this obituary during the first semester of my senior year. This was a school assignment. My World History teacher, Mrs.Cavilier, asked us to write two obituaries about ourselves. The first obituary was about myself if I were to pass away during my senior year. The second obituary was about myself if I were to pass away years from now. I chose the obituary that was years from now. I decided to choose it because that obituary sets my goals for myself. I am determined to be married and a Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner by 2025. Although it seems like it’s impossible, I’m always willing to take on a challenge. If I were to improve anything throughout this obituary, I would focus more on my inner self and the type of person I would’ve…

It was September 2 of 2015, the air was just a little chilly, and, for once, I was glad I was wearing my grey sweater. I stood outside of my mother’s Yukon waiting for my brothers to pile in the back. When they finally did, my mother drove us to the funeral home. The drive was long and quiet, it was as if someone had grabbed a television remote and muted us, so I decided I would listen to music to drown out the silence.…

When we’re young, we think that nothing can hurt us, we’re invincible, and there’s a good chance we can live forever. We want to do many things that are risky and questionable without even thinking about the possibility of death. We don't realize what could've happened until we are older and have more of a realization of death and its entirety. At seventeen, I have had my fair share of near death experiences and look back and think to myself how life could be over in an instant. Death isn't really about if and how it’s going to happen, but when it’s going to happen.…

We left home around 12:30 that morning, when we arrived at the cemetery I was hesitant about getting out of my vehicle, because this was my first time ever doing anything like this. The graveyard seemed to have at least three hundred graves, they were seperated by an old iron fence. As we all got out of our vehicles and began to walk through the graveyard the fog had began covering the burial grounds as if it was a blanket. We started walking trying to find the oldest grave, but it was so dark that I barely could see my own hands in front of my face. I could only see the solar lights which families had put on their relatives grave.…
