Personal Narrative: The Increase In Muslim Customers
I work at a department store jn a small, rural city. In this store, we get many different kinds of customers-whites, blacks, Hispanics, American Indians-and many Muslims. The wide diversity of customers allows for interactions with people I may have never otherwise gotten a chance to interact with. It's due to these acquaintances that I have gained love and respect for all different kinds of people around the globe. Due to recent happenings, I have noticed an increase in Muslim customers entering my department store. These customers are exactly that to me-customers, just like all the rest. I am not afraid of them, nor do I believe there is any reason to be. While I do not understand their language, I can still appreciate their ability and fluency while trying my best to establish clear communication. And above all else, I understand that they are in the store for the same reasons as all the non-Muslim customers, and …show more content…
Because the answer is simple: they're not. They are parents, spouses, friends. They are a father holding a helpless infant. They are a family going out for a good time. They are a mother, wanting better for her children than she had in her own country. This is the reality of Muslim immigrants. The radical population that recieves the majority of publicity does not make up the true majority. In fact, less than 0.00009 of all Muslims are terrorists, and very few, if any more, condone it. In fact, given that number, one is more likely to be hit by lightening than ever be threatened by an Islamic terrorist in their lifetime. In addition, 94% of all U.S. terrorist attacks are performed by non-Muslims, while 2% of all European attacks have Islamic basing. These statistics support my original statement: Muslim immigrants are being incorrectly portrayed and are being falsely discriminated against because of the actions of the radicals of their

While this concern is completely justified morally, the facts just don’t add up. According to CNN, “the primary perpetrators of the major terror attacks have mostly been US-born citizens or permanent legal residents originally from countries not included in the ban”. To summarize, refugees really are not the problem here! Most terror attacks that happen within the United States are domestic. Take Dylan Roof for instance, who stormed into an African-American church and shot nine people.…

So many of us here in America wanted many members roughly 1.6 billion to suffer for the crimes of this very minuscule group of 19 contributors in the terrorist attack. Our country would eventually go into a war within the Middle East that directly correlated to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, that would become a war that lost lives many funds and resources and did more harmful than any good for us. And this pretrial of Muslims as evil terrorists here in America is an every present idea shared by many. “After the events on 9/11 the Bush Administration formed ICE which oversaw deportations in the U.S, which nearly double since 9/11.”(The Lowdown) This idea is very harmful there are always outliers in a large group such as Christians, Muslims, and Hindus etc. To put the ideas shared by few and express them shared by many is an extremely terrible way to look at religious groups. This terrible belief is ever-present 15 years…

There are 3.3 million Muslims living in the United States, it is clearly impossible that all of them are terrorists. Unfortunately, not all Americans are willing to listen. First, looking at the discrimination of Muslims in the modern world. The population, not only in the United States but in other countries as well, go through extensive measure to “keep the country safe”. All these people are doing is calling out people because of the way they live/their race, what their beliefs are and what they do for a living. We always seem to double check on people who don't quite ‘look American’ or they look as though they are of a different ethnicity from what we believe is safe. Recently, some amount of Muslims have been accused of being a terrorist just because of their appearance. Just like in this first article where a college student who majors in terrorism, crime and global security. He was studying more on his major in a public library, when someone had noticed his appearance and decided that they should question him about his thoughts on…

I have worked at my parent’s small convenience store as a clerk for the past four years. My experience working there taught me about the social and financial sides of business. Each time customers came in, I made sure to ask them how their day was in order to create a connection and if they were regular customers I made a point to remark on a topic they brought up on their last visit. By taking the time to get to know customers I was able to create personal…

Throughout my seventeen years, I have met and dealt with various groups of people with diverse ethnic backgrounds from school or through my volunteer activities. However, nothing prepared me for my summer job at the new local Walmart store. The first day of my first paying job was also the grand opening day for Walmart at the Dulles Landing store. I have met countless employees and customers with so many different backgrounds and cultures, who communicate with each other in so many different languages. The whole atmosphere at the Walmart store feels like I am in the middle of the busy World Market. There are countless demanding and exasperated customers that I deal with each day at the customer service counter. Through this experience,…

Immigrants were treated and considered as if they were stupid. They formed clans by their backgrounds, where they were from, language. 9/11 September 11th, 2001 nearly 3,000 victims were killed by “Osama Bin Laden” destroying the World Trade Center. Nearly 300 firefighters died trying to save people. The terrorists crashed into the Pentagon and destroyed One Wing which was holding the CIA and other government workers. It is because of this that airports are more strict with what people carry on board. Anyone who poses as a threat is now always under surveillance. And now Arabs are are looked at negatively and associated with terrorism automatically.…

Hate crimes against Muslims have increased dramatically since 2001. Statistics say that hate crimes against Muslims went up 90% immediately after 9/11. These hate crimes played a very significant role in making Middle Eastern people in the United States feel unwelcome, especially in southern states. Immigration decreased, mostly because the American government wants to keep it’s people safe, and “prevent any avenue from being used by terrorists to infiltrate the United States.” (Dewey…

I love working with people, especially when lending a hand. I was raised around family businesses and throughout all my work experiences I can say that I truly have enjoyed any trade or industry that had me around people. I remember when I worked as a café manager I would see new faces everyday and many returning customers also. There was no other sensation like it that could fill me with true joy, when I could get the people to smile. I made it a challenge on occasion to get those in bad moods or persons that were not feeling well, to smile anyway and to take on a new perception for that day that lied ahead of them. This was very rewarding to me and at times when I couldn’t get them to feel better no matter what was said or done, it played in my mind and I would actually remember the person, even by name and would wait for them to return for my second or third chance to make a difference in their lives, even if it were just for that one day or even one moment.…

Muslim culture has many different cultural groups. Each culture has different traditions and customs. There are Asian, African, European, and American Muslims. There are over 2 billion Muslims all over the world. A Muslim should not be judged by what they believe in, if it’s different from other’s beliefs. People are created in the sight of Allah. They should also not be judged by what they choose to be or wear. Muslims are required to pray five times a day. Some even keep prayer mats in their cars to take out and pray on. Muslim women are treated with respect. They have equal rights and have full respect and honor. A marriage can’t be taken place if the woman does not agree. She must agree in order to get married. When they get married, the…
