Personal Narrative: The New Rival Nerf Gun
"Please can I get that,'' I asked my mom. I wanted the new Rival Nerf Gun. It was automatic and was super powerful.

She said,''No, but maybe next time bud.''Every time we went to the store I asked her if I could get it. Each time I got the same answer "No." I had to find a way to get that Nerf Gun!Then I had an idea!

I would ask my grandma. Everybody knows that grandparents get you everything! So I went to ask my grandma, I said,"Hey! Could you get me this cool new Nerf Gun for Christmas?"

Then she said,”I don’t know, but I will think about it.”

I just knew I would get it! I was almost 90% sure that I would get the amazing Rival Nerf Gun. I was so excited!

Thanksgiving past quickly, but Christmas came slowly. It was so miserable having to wait this long. I really couldn’t wait any longer. When my brother asked our grandma the same question, the same day the first thing that came to my mind was, Nerf Battle! Thinking about the Nerf Gun didn’t help the waiting problem.

As of December 13th the 11s, 12s, 13s, 14s, and 15s team have all of their presents donated. The 16s, 17s, and 18s age groups are still working on getting their presents in. The young age groups having their presents in sooner was expected and happens every year due to their guardians taking on all of the responsibilities. As the age groups get older the players seem to be busier with tournaments, school, and recruiting and it is difficult for them to find time to go shopping. Due to this there were a few modifications made. Jenna recently met with the 16s, 17s, and 18s teams after one of their practices and explained that if a player is too busy to shop for their gifts they have the option to give Jenna fifty dollars and she will buy their presents for them. This helped the older teams tremendously, almost every player had their gifts in by the next week thanks to Jenna. The 18s team even wrote encouraging and motivating letters to their “adopted” children from Santa to help them stay positive through hard times in their life. I am so impressed with the amount of gifts donated and the extra effort put in by the 18s team. There were at least thirty presents for each family. They even began to run out of space in the gift’s storage room. I am so happy to be a part of Tejasmas and to be able to make someone else’s Christmas…

    Christmas vs Thanksgiving

Christmas is a kid’s favorite holidays for really only one reason: presents. We live in a society where materialistic things outweigh almost anything else. We would do almost anything to get the new iPhone, and we have an annual “buy as much as you can” day, also known as Black Friday. Christmas, unfortunately, has gone away from its religious origins and has been turned into the most expensive holiday of the year. Although I am sitting here trashing Christmas, I do still enjoy the snow and the decorations; who doesn’t? Snow sets the stage for Santa, and decorations make it all the merrier. Twinkling lights accompany almost every roof and dance in the cold winter gusts. The weather and feel of Christmas couldn’t be more perfect for the holiday; cold keeps us in the house and makes the fire feel all the more wonderful, while sugary treats and presents make our tummies and shelves feel good. Unfortunately for Christmas, my love for the day has diminished. I have grown up to see how selfish our society is during this time of year and now different we treat the holiday than it is actually supposed…

About seven years ago my father woke me upon a Christmas morning with a Remington double barrel shotgun, Even though Christmas was a time to spend with loved ones, I knew there was only one thing on my mind... When you think back to childhood, your best memories often revolve around winter holidays. Sometimes they recall a very special Christmas gift, such as that much wished for electronic device or video game. More often, they remember good company and good times, family laughter over a game, hot chocolate and a hug while building a snowman, gifts that came without a price tag and that have become priceless with time. With a little thought and planning, you can still create and enjoy memorable holiday moments.…
