Personal Narrative: Waxing The Kidney Floor
Have you ever taken on a new responsibility? I have, and let me tell you, I felt like I was tricked by the wicked witch herself. It’s something like, waxing the hardwood floor! In these next few weird paragraphs you will know the challenges I faced. First, waxing the hardwood floor is like waxing a car, it has to be clean! Every week I have to make sure that the hardwood floor is waxed. If you slipped you are going to have bruises for a month. It depends on how hard you fell, If they stay longer. I guess when I fell, there had to be repairs. Second, hardwood floors are sensitive, like women. You can’t wax it too hard, or you will have to a new one. I learned two weeks ago. The scratch was so big, I could not breathe.

I looked around and I wasn’t in my room anymore, I was in the hospital during my grandpa’s surgery. The waiting room was cold and sterile and the smell of antiseptic was so strong I could taste it. Waves of uneasiness washed over me as if they were trying to drown me. My grandma and my mother were sitting in the room with me and they looked just as scared. I remembered how long my grandpa was in surgery to get his windpipe removed, how I had thought that I wouldn’t make it through the hours he was and that if he didn’t then I wouldn’t make it for much longer afterward.…

The moment I woke up from my surgery I remember my surgeon say that "everything thing went well, that the gallbladder came out fine with no complications." Will my husband let the so called scorpions in his mind sting him to the point of paranoia where he would kill his own spouse as he has murdered his best friend. And now he sees spirits drenched in death awaiting him at the table, sitting in his chair. The dead are gone far into the pits of hell, gone, they can't come back ' I tell him so. His spells of fits leave me to answer the questions, me to cover his deeply evident tracks, which could lead us both to sudden downfall, what if one day I fail to perform my role. Can an actor be a snake but play the flower? In a performance yes easily, but in life he would be dug deeper and deeper in a hole until he cannot see the sunlight for he is so far dug in. And as with my husband and I so far stooped in blood we can only wade deeper in. The nobles suspect it and I fear that Macduff does know it due to his failing to attend the feast. Yet I was once so sure, so sure that the dark would hide our actions that we, as king and queen, would escape un-scorched from the scorching inferno of the lies we…

Albans. We did this experiment on Wednesday evening when we had people coming in for small groups. My dad is the senior minister so I made sure he was in on it. I wouldn’t let him participate though because I knew his high authority would definitely influence people whether they believed it or not. So instead, we all waited in our cars in the parking lot for people to start coming in. I wanted to see if me being the preacher’s daughter would have any influence on whether or not people followed my behavior. Well, they did. In fact my first “victims” happened to be three older women that have known me basically my whole life and when they saw me take off my shoes they went ahead and did too! I almost stopped them because I felt bad but I waited until they were inside and could sit down to put them back on. I was afraid they would be upset but they actually thought it was pretty funny (thankfully). I did it again by myself and a whole family with two small children all took off their shoes as well. I didn’t even know these people all that well. The next time we waited until a bunch of people were coming in at the same time and I stayed in my car and watched as three of my friends went before them and took off their shoes. This time, it took them a little while longer to join in but after discussing it with each other, they eventually all did. There was not one person that didn’t take off their shoes. I…

Jane Addams (September 6, 1860 - May 21, 1935) was a pioneer settlement social worker, public philosopher, sociologist, author, and leader in women's suffrage and world peace. In an era when presidents such as Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilsonidentified themselves as reformers and social activists, Adams was one of the most prominent[1] reformers of the Progressive Era. She helped turn the US to issues of concern to mothers, such as the needs of children, public health, and world peace. She said that if women were to be responsible for cleaning up their communities and making them better places to live, they needed the vote to be effective in doing so. Addams became a role model for middle-class women who volunteered to uplift their communities. She is increasingly being recognized as a member of the American pragmatist school of philosophy.[2] In 1931 she became the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and is recognized as the "father" of the social work profession in the United States.…

I wanted to recreate the look of the braid. My grandmother made it look so simple. The momentum of her hands was quick, and before I knew it the braid was finished. I remember thinking that this couldn’t be too difficult, as I reflected on her brief demonstration. I was eager to try when I picked up the strands of hair, my hands felt tight, my fingers were stiff, and the position of my hands felt foreign. I picked up the comb and stared into the mirror, I grabbed chunks of my hair and started twisting; the hair slipped from my short stubby fingers over and over again. I became frustrated and discouraged after several minutes, and for the first time, I felt defeated. This process was going to take time and I needed to be patient.…

The history of the game of basketball is unique to other sports. Instead of the game gradually developing into a sport over time, the invention of basketball was immediate. In eighteen-ninety-one, when a local YMCA gave him the task of creating a game for students, James Naismith designed a game he named “basketball”. From there, the game quickly grew into a national and worldwide phenomenon. Only forty-five years later, in nineteen-thirty-six, basketball was introduced to the Olympics games. Founded in nineteen-forty-nine, the National Basketball Association, a collection of professional men’s teams, became the nation’s hallmark league. Finally, the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) was created in nineteen-ninety-six. Now, basketball…
