Personal Narrative: Welcome To The Lone Star State
“Hello, your captain speaking here. Welcome to the Lone Star State and thank you again for flying with us!” One month earlier, the summer of two thousand sixteen touched the horizon. Naturally, my family began conversing about summer plans. Where would we go this year? I longed to visit the beach or even adventure around the United States. Many ideas crossed our minds, but few survived. After much consideration, my family took the unique opportunity to travel to Peru; here I learned the importance of trusting in God, serving others in need, and bonding with other Christians. Faster and faster the mission trip to Peru approached and I found my trust in God dwindling. Following my family’s decision to serve in Peru for a week, I felt afraid and uncertain of the trip ahead. Traveling to an unfamiliar land overseas did not sound like an enjoyable summer vacation to me. I did not want to face the challenges of living in a third world country for even one week! Before I knew it, embarking on the overnight flight to Lima, Peru began. No turning back now, finally I accepted God’s plan for my family and prayed He keep us trouble free on our journey. My spirits lifted by the reassurance of God’s protection when our flight landed and we arrived at …show more content…
God taught me so many lessons through a trip I objected to only a month earlier. Through fear and uncertainty, the Lord revealed the importance of trusting in Him. Also, through observing people in physical and spiritual urgency, I realized the extreme need of service. Finally, I discovered the benefit of associating and bonding with other Christians. Because of the many experiences and lessons learned on the mission trip to Peru, my life changed for the better and I look forward to God’s marvelous plan for my life. So next summer when I converse about vacation ideas with my family, will not hesitate to participate in another amazing mission

In Jacqueline Mana Hagan’s Migration Miracle, Hagan discusses how different people keep in God close to their heart when they are making the harsh, physical and emotional demanding journey to America. In chapter 7 of Migration Miracle, Hagan discusses how many of these migrants and their families’ use something called La Promesas or promises; in hopes that God will be a helping hand their journey. In this chapter, we see many unorthodox ways that people use in order to give praise to their religion. A couple of ways that the migrants and their families used were having shrines in their homes, the families lighting candles, and visiting shrines of their Saints. Another topic that the book touched on was how migrants realized how important religion…

“Slow down, future leaders of America at play,” a sign engrained in my memory as a result of the numerous volunteer trips I took to Mountain Mission School. Mountain Mission School (MMS) is a Christian boarding school and home to many children, who come from devastating backgrounds and poverty. Receiving no government funding, Mountain Mission School located in Grundy, Virginia operates solely on private donations and generous charities from churches all over America. In addition to a school, MMS played a key role in my life. Not only was MMS my home but also my church starting from second grade up until I graduated high school.…

Throughout my life, I have had to make many choices. Some have been quite simple such as, whether to have a cookie or ice cream, or quite difficult such as, trying to decide where I wanted to go to college. All these choices, big or small, have made me who I am today. Certain choices have taught me lessons about what not to do in life, while other choices have made me grow stronger in my moral character. One such choice was whether or not to take part in my church’s mission trip called Impact Virginia. I had the choice between spending a week of my summer relaxing at home, or outside working on houses for people in need. I can honestly say at that time it was a difficult choice. I had never gone on a mission trip, so I had never known how…

This summer, I was blessed with an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Haiti on a mission trip. Of course, I was slightly nervous about traveling to a third world country, where I did not know the language, and the only people I would know would be the people from the church that I was traveling with. However, I knew this would be a life changing experience, so I took the leap! I am so grateful I did because every second was worth it! Our mission was to work with orphans, help homeschool English speaking children, and meet with the women’s group of Grand Savann Christian Church.…

The Mazanderani of Iran is among those clusters. With a population of zero percent Christians the Mazanderani of Iran is one of the most unreached people groups. How would one begin when trying to reach the Mazanderani? Some would say it is not possible or it is too dangerous. These are some questions that this paper addresses.…

There is no doubt that South Carolina is one of the few states making progress down south but to fulfill my wants/needs I needed to move here to New York. After months of contemplating I realized that for a chance to be treated as everyone else that I would need to make this change, I needed the money that work would bring, a chance to showcase my talents and living conditions near the plantation were harsh and unfair. I feel that this was the best decision to make at this point in time. Times are changing and we deserve to be, act and live better.…

Imagine being stripped away from everything you knew: your childhood friends; cousins you thought you'd always have with you, and places you called your second, third, or even fourth home. That is exactly what I went through when my family decided to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. What's different about my experience was that it wasn't necessarily the move that flipped my world upside down but everything that happened in between. I was an awkward, shy, midget-like twelve-year-old when my family and I lost our home during the California money crisis. From that point on it was like a tumbling circus act. My parents ended up losing their jobs until finally my dad moved to New Mexico; leaving me and my family for almost a year. The last thing…

This mission trip was impactful spiritually and mentally by changing my viewpoint of inner city missions. We served in tangible ways, providing people with their basic needs. Sometimes it is more effective to come out of your wheelhouse to experience or gain new perspectives. This is exactly what happened to me. I was pushed out of my comfort zone and have been grateful for it ever since. Leaving an impactful impression on me spiritually and mentally, this mission trip has been one of the most beneficial trips I have…
