Personal Narrative: Winston Solar Car Team
My name is Joseph Cavuoti, and I am the captain of the Winston Solar Car Team. The mission of the team was to build a solar powered car, and then race it at the Texas Motor Speedway in July, 2017. My Junior year was when I was unexpectedly given the position of Captain. I didn’t know how to lead a group of people, but knowing that all of them were my friends made me feel better. As a team we had to decide what the car would look like, how it moved, what solar panels to get, the list goes on. Each team member worked together to learn welding, drilling metal, grinding/cutting metal, using a jigsaw, etc. It was my responsibility to make sure that the team was performing dangerous tasks under the safest circumstances. During the construction of the car we made mistakes. Our greatest challenge was the brake system. …show more content…
We ended up spending over a thousand dollars on brakes we had remove from the car during the race because the calipers were locking on the top of the rotors. We ended up taking the brakes off of the back wheels. We had to manufacture our own brackets for the brakes so they’d fit on the rotors. After the construction of the car, we went to the speedway. Each team had to go through a process called scrutineering. This was where all the judges tested the teams on their knowledge of their cars. There were six stages: mechanical, electrical, steering, slalom/emergency escape from car, braking, and the track test. The car was bulky, heavy, and had a terrible turning radius. We were able to troubleshoot at the track and fix the steering system. The mirrors were not in the right spot, and

As it comes to the performance of our car I think it preformed alright. It could have done a lot better. I believe are car made it about five meters. Two strengths of are car where probably the spinners on the wheels, and also the way we have the back of the mouse trap carved out allowing more room for the rope to be wound. Two definite weaknesses of are car was that the back wheels were not big enough therefore the car would spin out most of the time. Another weakness is that the axles were not on there perfectly straight so the tires would rub against the body of the car causing friction.…

Under the presidency of S.A.D.D (Students Against Destructive Decisions) in my high school, I've conducted and lead many projects to help many organizations and even planned and coordinated many community service projects. But, out of the many project that the club and I have planned and created, I would have to state that I've projected my leadership role the most while our club and I went to Feeding South Florida for a field trip that I've planned. The reason why I state this is because, Feeding South Florida was a common place that many people knew, especially our members, and so before we got to the warehouse, I've explained the purpose Feeding South Florida stands for and the job that we would have to do there. When we got to the warehouse and began working, I would help the members and other volunteers carry boxes that were a bit heavy for them to carry and to help them understand how to sort the items that were donated to the warehouse into categorized boxes that they had provided to us. The purpose on why I led this project is because of the purpose behind Feeding South Florida, which is to collect, pack and send foods to the many shelters and food kitchens that they have provided in South Florida and working on this project created a positive effect on my life. The reason why I state this is because, while volunteering, it made me feel as if I was privileged.…

Cars were exceptionally important in everyone’s daily lives. With the invention of cars, people had a means of transportation and saved a lot of time. However, in the beginning, cars were a pain to put together. The process of creating an automobile was costly and time consuming, because manufacturers did not have an easy way to put the vehicles together. It took half a day just to put one car together. However, all of that changed when Henry Ford came along.…

There are very few people who are lucky enough to be a captain of a team. I am one of those lucky few people. On April 12, I had an audition to try out for a Color Guard Captain position. I had been waiting for that day since early February. On April 15th, the captains were announced. I heard my name, looked at Makayla Hurt, she heard her name, and we could not believe it. Over the weekend, I thought what can I do to help improve the team. Well I can improve skill, change attitude for the better, and how will the decision I made along with our coach of me being a captain affect the team.…

Having the ability to lead others is essential in today’s world. For approximately the past two years, I have been the team captain of my high school’s robotics team, the Combustible Lemons. My name is Kaleigh Gonzales I’m a 15 year old sophomore and I’m running for the 2014-2015 officer position of reporter for Armwood High Schools FFA Chapter. I feel I should be selected for this position because not only am I a people person but I am also extremely organized. I think this would make me be able to effectively and efficiently get the Armwood FFA’s chapter name known to the public. I would also try to do this by doing any and all public service projects we can get our hands on, then publishing our successes. I believe that to make a difference you have to be known and respected by the community around you. In the past three years I have served as Vice President for Burnett Middle School for two terms and Treasurer for Armwood high school for one term. In this time I’ve competed many events including forestry, land judging, vet assisting, OCC, creed speaking, and extemporaneous public speaking. By doing this I’ve gained lots of experience and love in our great organization. I believe to be this year’s reporter I have to not only work on our clubs public media aspects but also work hard in competitions to win and better our chapters’ reputation. If I were to describe the technique in which I lead I would have to say that I plan , I tell others my plan , and then I depend on my team to help me. They tell me where they specialize in and what they want to do for me, and we work form there. I try to let people do what makes them happy while still helping me. I can make a personal promise that I will always work my hardest to make FFA my top priority, a position like this requires my full attention. My other activity I engage in is that I am a First sergeant of alpha company in JROTC, this means I am the second in command of one of three company’s in our schools only JROTC battalion. I promise that my responsibilities there will not interfere with my responsibilities regarding FFA. Some activities I want to do this year are competitions like OCC and…

On June 28, 1967, Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV) Aerospace Corporation contracted to purchase 202 aircraft brakes from B. F. Goodrich for the A7D, a new plane that Ling-Temco-Vought was constructing for the Air Force. B. F. Goodrich, a tire manufacturer, agreed to supply the brakes for less than $70,000. According to Mr. Vandivier, a Goodrich employee who worked on this project, Goodrich had submitted this "absurdly low" bid to LTV because it badly wanted the contract.1 Even if Goodrich lost money on this initial contract, the Air Force afterwards would be committed to buying all future brakes for the A7D from B. F. Goodrich.…
