Personal Narrative: My First Science Fair Project
If you told me to give you a one word answer of what I like about school I would swiftly respond Science. For me science made me question, and it opened up various pathways into understanding the state of which we live in. My love for science as a young teenager led me down the road to creating my first science fair project in my freshman year of high school, but little did I know that this project would lead me down to the path of utter frustration and ultimately failure.

The road to my science fair project started out when my teacher told me that there would be a regional science fair and if I was interested in entering. I was very intrigued by the offer, and so I decided I would enter with a partner who helped me come up with an idea. Our project revolved around ionizing radiation on plants and seeing how it affected there mitotic cell

This project was a failure. It was very rough cause looking back to all the time spent on this project we accomplished no results. I felt as if though the science I believed in let me down and emotionally it was rough to see that happen. Failure was the worst case scenario and it happened. We ended up going to finish other criterias of the project so we would have enough time to finish up.

As we tried to put our project together with our control results and mostly internet findings, we came up with a phenomenal idea. The idea was that we could flip the script and use failure as the basis of our project and really talk about how it impacted us. It was risky, but it payed of big time as we won 2nd place in the science fair!

When I looked back at my project one of the most important things that I took from it was that failure can always be used to create new opportunities if one never ends up working. This rule I still apply today especially when I work through various labs in each of my science

Connections were made throughout communicating with our potential customers, as well as our professors. Networking has been an important part of completing our design, and without it the design could have never been started. Creating Value was what led to many important design decisions. If the design we created for StoneCrest did not satisfy all, or any, of their needs, the design would be doomed to fail. Curiosity allowed us to go through with any design decision we had, no matter how foolish the idea sounded. Taking risks allowed for new implementations to the design that would never be added if we followed simple and standard previous designs. Overall, the project led us to understand the entrepreneurial mindset and put it to use in real world…

When I was in seventh grade, my middle school participated in a very well-known science fair competition in Los Angeles County. The fair showcased projects done by students all over the county, and only a few of the best students were chosen as winners. The winners, depending on the grade level, won cash prizes, medals, and even scholarship offers. As most people would be, I was really enthusiastic that I got an opportunity to participate in such a rigorous event.…

In life, failures occasionally happen. It befalls on everybody. However, failures don’t label us as a person but can build you as one of those experiences. The person who succeeds without first failing hasn't truly learned anything. In failures, there can be a learning experience and an opportunity to develop. For my first biology test I received a grade that I am not proud of. To be completely honest the night before the test I attended a concert and didn’t get to sleep until two in the morning. This optical is defiantly something that I could have avoided. I should not have attended the concert, or at least I should have prepared myself weeks in advance knowing that I had a concert the night before. This is my second time taking the class and I expected better out of myself. I made the same mistake I did last year by not studying till the week of the test. Another obstacle was my interest, I am not interested in the topics we are discussing but as a student I need to ignore preference and work on doing my best. Most biology test is memory based…

On June 12, 2006, I was ready to board my flight at San Diego International airport, when I was given a once in a lifetime experience. As I began to board, the captain and first officer were greeting the passengers ahead of me. The line was moving very slowly; however, I eventually made it to the front. The captain and I began talking when all of a sudden he asked a very typical question, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” I responded, “I want to be a pilot” and for no apparent reason offered to take me into the cockpit. Inside the cockpit, the captain continued to talk about the plane while pointing to instruments such as altimeter and vertical speed indicator, when I suddenly asked him, “How did he become a pilot?” He responded by saying,…

It all began in the sixth grade when I was in Biology class with the white walls and all of the cabinets surrounding the students from the side and the back and the only thing to look it was the white board and the teacher sitting on her desk thinking about what to give us net as our assignment. As soon as she got I thought she was going to give us an easy assignment to complete in a day or two, but this time that was not the case she ended up giving us the longest homework of the year and it was our science fair project. The assignment took us about a month to complete because she took it in steps since it was the first time that anyone was going to do it.…

School is one of the most important interest of mines. Because it’s a learning experience and doesn’t matter how old I am I can always continue my education, I also feel people are never to old to pick up a book an read or learn about new things. School inspired me in a major way growing up as a child. It inspired me because my mother always took my education serious. She would look me in my eyes “ whatever you do don’t give up and learn as much as you can”, she always stressed that to my two brothers and me, it really was hard on me because I was the youngest and whole family expected the out of me.…
