Personal Philosophy Of Nursing

My personal definition of nursing is the ability to provide holistic, compassionate, non-judgment care to people with the goal of promoting and improving their way of life in ethical and safe way. Nursing is also the ability to think critically to lessen or prevent sickness, injury, and disease. My personal philosophy in nursing addresses and unites accountability, professionalism, and compassion together that provide a framework in my profession as a nurse. These are also my personal values in everyday life. I feel that my professional as well as my personal philosophy go hand in hand and are my driving force in my nursing practice. Even though I am not perfect I always make it a goal to promote these attributes when caring for patients. I believe as nurses, we are held to high standards not only from the community but also within our healthcare systems from other nurses and doctors.
We as nurses must be held accountable in regards to our understanding and our knowledge of the mechanism of a medications, pathophysiology diseases, and human anatomy when other people’s lives are in our hands. I
This is why nurses are known as lifelong learners. I believe that being accountable in our profession is a foundation to becoming a more competent nurse. I also believe that furthering your education and becoming a lifelong learner is a responsibility and expectation of nurses especially in caring for a very large and diverse population. I have set this as my personal goal to always leanr something new and apply it in my nursing practice. I feel that nurses should strive to perform daily routines in a professional manner.
