Personal Statement: A Career As A Teacher

During my time at primary school I felt that some of my teachers were not supportive when it came to dealing with pupils who were struggling with low self-esteem issues. I want to be a teacher who will encourage children who are facing difficulties so that they can enjoy their time at school. It is well-known that a child learns more skills between the ages of 3-7 than any other time in their lives and therefore it is imperative I demonstrate my commitment and dedication to enhance the development of the child.
I am a hard-working, responsible and friendly individual with a strong desire to teach, which I believe are some of the key qualities required to be a teacher. In addition a good teacher needs to be patient, especially if a child is having trouble understanding a task, as alternative techniques must be explored to suit each child. Every child is unique and I think it is important to recognise this, as some will need more guidance and scaffolding than others. I am enthusiastic with a genuine love of teaching and I recognise that whilst this career can be challenging at times, the reward of personal pride makes it worthwhile.
In these lessons I realised that every child has their own preferred way of learning and I found that some children benefitted more when they had one on one time with a teaching assistant, as it provided them with an opportunity to be listened to directly and for the assistant to pace the learning at their level. The breaking down of words and looking at pictures to identify the word is an approach I also saw being
