Dave group, which was the group I went with, focused on letter reading; while Mrs. Sobia group focused on math. Following the group activities, Mr. Dave and I played with the kids, while Mrs. Sobia took her lunch break. Once she came back, Mr. Dave went on his lunch break and the kids had their snack. I sat with two little boys Mathew aka Matty and Dan, who shared their snacks with me, as we talked about their favorite colors, and toys as well as super heroes. Which was one of the cutest things ever.
After snack time it was naptime. During naptime I continued to talk with the teachers and I learned more about what it meant to be a teacher. We talked about how some people viewed teaching p-k and kindergartener as babysitting when in fact it’s the exact opposite It opened my eyes because I learned that you really have to be energetic and watch the kids closely do to their age. Once the children woke up from their cute nappy time, they played again for 15-20 minutes to fully wake up and afterwards have lunch. After lunch, they reflected on what they did that day and went to recess until their parents picked them up at 2:30.
In conclusion, observing the classroom motivated me to continue on the path of becoming a teacher so that I could one day make a difference in the lives of children. I want to be a strong influence on younger kids in particular, because I enjoy working with them the most. Plus they’re
