BS is a Caucasian female and is four years and eight months old. She is the same size as most of the peers in her class, and wears glasses. She speaks English, and receives speech therapy at school. Most of the observations were completed inside the classroom on days where all or most of the twenty children were present. Almost all of the observations took place during choice time, which is usually from 8:00 – 9:15 AM or 10: 45 AM – 11:30 AM. One or two observations took place during gym or outside time, which is from 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM. When walking in the door, to the left is the children’s cubbies, the teacher’s desk, and an eight person rectangle table. In front of the door, there is a seven person rainbow shaped table, the dramatic play area, and the science and discovery center, which is the furthest from the door, in front of the windows. To the left of the science and discovery center there are two computer stations, a six person rectangle table, a shelf with art supplies, and the classroom library. When facing the library, to the left is the circle time carpet, with a whiteboard behind it. When facing away from the whiteboard, there is another carpet that is used for the block area. Unidimensional thought is, “A characteristic of preoperational thought in the preschool years in which children focus on only one characteristic of an object or one feature of a problem at a time and have difficulty coordinating more than one idea or activity” (Trawick-Smith, 2014, p. 246). BS has been observed demonstrating this in on February 2, 2017. BS completes the puzzle; however the picture is not correct. This shows that she was only focused on making the pieces fit together rather than making the correct picture and having the pieces of the puzzle fit together. From the observations, it can be concluded that BS’s cognitive skills are developing typically for her
