“Can Machines Think?” – This question proposed by Alan Turing has significantly advanced the field of computer science. Imagine his joy if he’d be able to witness the IBM’s Deep Blue beating the world champion chess player Gary Kasparov. My academic experiences during my undergraduate degree have made me crave to know more, learn more. Amongst all the subjects studied, it was Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Discovery that truly piqued my interest for graduate studies. My interest in the field, combined with my zeal to really comprehend the fundamental concepts helped me score well in my academics. The courses I studied, namely Data Structures and Algorithms, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Discrete Mathematics, …show more content…
Because of my ability to explain complex concepts in a simple manner, my friends always ask me to teach them. According to me, this has dual benefits: my concepts get better, and I get a sense of satisfaction in clearly explaining a topic to my friend.
During the sixth semester, I, along with my friend, worked on a system to automate the process of interviews. Our goal was to develop a web-based Interview Management System. I created the backend database using the SQL Server Express Database to store relevant content. This project enhanced my collaborative skills, and I understood database management and information retrieval more clearly and broadened my perception about it.
During the third year of my undergraduate studies, I represented my university at the E-Yantra Robotics Competition organized by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay one of the most prestigious engineering/research institutes in the country. For this competition, our team of four members built an Automated Waste Segregating Robot using FIREBIRD V. Even though we had a regular test schedule which followed every month, not only did we complete the project on time, but also stood fifth in the country amongst 50+ teams. Participating in this event made me realize the numerous exciting possibilities that A.I. presents us with and how smart automated systems like this could be life changing when executed on a larger …show more content…
Currently, I am an Intern at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay under the guidance of Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya. The project that I am working on, is in the Natural Language Processing domain, specifically on Hindi WordNet, an online lexical database built around lexical and semantic relations between words. My task is to contribute to the ongoing project on creating a Digital Aid, developing an Android Application to suit language learning in primary schools. Apart from this, I am working on Image Based searching on WordNet under Prof. Pushpak’s supervision. I consider that this research internship would provide me valuable experience of working on a real-world project, before entering the graduate
