“We live in this world in order always to learn industriously and to enlighten each other by means of discussion and to strive vigorously to promote the progress of science and the fine arts.” - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
I have been playing Piano from the age of five and therefore I think nothing can be more apt that quoting Mozart to begin my essay on my interest in the Honors college. I gained my understanding about the Purdue Honors college from the numerous YouTube videos posted under “ Purdue Honors”. I have a deep interest in mathematical algorithms, which I could not develop much in high school due to the very valid time constraints of my high school math teacher, who understandably had to spend more time with students who needed help. I believe the smaller class size and in-depth curriculum at the Honors College will give me the opportunity to go above and beyond what is expected. I do my best when the bench mark is set high and the honors College will provide the environment that will stretch me and make me always ask …show more content…
These problems span numerous fields of engineering, linguistics, and humanities. As the discipline of artificial intelligence and machine learning evolves, it is critical for any computer scientist to have the ability to comprehend and collaborate with experts across other disciplines. For e.g. Any self-driving car should be built considering the psychology of humans driving cars, or a language processing algorithm must consider the accent and interpretation of a language across cultures. These are just two examples where a computer scientist will have to collaborate with Psychologist and Linguists. The interdisciplinary environment in the Honors College encourages discussion and debate, which will bring multiple perspectives to any challenge and nurture out of the box
