Finding time to study is tough, with a twenty-month old running around. I wish I could freeze time and just play with him! Sometimes, it is so hard to focus and I lose my time to study. I have started going other places to study. I am taking my teachers’ advice and picking up my books and going to the library, or I will lock myself in my room and turn on the television to drown out the noise of everyone around me. So far it has worked. I hope it continues.…

The dynamic relationship between humans, Earth and all else within has always captivated me. I was born in 1973 in Jamaica, my parents were politically active, I was taken as a child to rallies mostly about challenging socio-political injustices and poverty, in the streets of London, Kingston and New York and can recall the first time hearing such terminology as, ‘limits to growth’, ‘the pollution pandemic’, ‘alternative energy’, ‘consumerism,’ and ‘overpopulation’. Only much later did a bell go off, connecting the two seemingly separate thought structures, culminating in the realization that these ills, whether social or environmental is one and the same. The Protocols of Montreal, Kyoto and more also fueled me with a drive to make sustainable living not only more accessible, but globally more accepted.…

After graduating from Oakland University in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in Health Science, I joined the Detroit Medical Center as a laboratory technologist because I wanted to learn about clinical instruments and their technology. As a Medical Technologist, I process blood, urine and other body fluids on advanced chemistry and toxicology analyzer to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. These instruments aid the technologist by automating very complex and time consuming process. The instruments can be programmed to automatically upload results to physicians in real time, streamlining patient care while holding back abnormal results for review by the technologist before they are released to the physicians. Personal and professional experiences in health care have given me a vision about where I want my career to progress and have encouraged me to pursue a degree in Health Information Technology.…

Everyone deserves equal access to healthcare. Nevertheless, many people in our community still do not have access to good healthcare. A friend of mine was in a critical condition because she refused to seek medical treatment when she became ill. She did not have health insurance and she was not aware of the opportunities for affordable healthcare for those with low income. I have seen the negative impact that comes from delaying health care many times in my Vietnamese-American community, and I understand their struggle because I was once in their shoes. Additionally, many healthcare professionals seem to not realize that most Vietnamese cannot read, as education was not their priority.…

I come from a city nowhere near as being clean or having many accomplishments, where some people are being affected due to hunger or drug addiction. All I hear on the news is how San Bernardino has a negative reputation such as having infamous teachers who don't seem to have respect for their students. Aside from all the comments, whether having teachers or having students who make the city feel unsafe. There are always opportunities around.…

Environmental Science has been an interest of mine since high school. I originally planned on studying environmental science upon graduation, but my life took a different turn when I went straight into the workforce and actually ended up in the construction industry. However, I chose this course in the hopes that not only would I fulfill my science credits, but I would take something away from it that I could apply to my everyday life, and I believe that I have come to have a deeper appreciation and desire to make postitive decisions to keep this planet and the environment that we live in as healthy as possible for future…

Overcrowding: Overcrowding in houses can arise from several causes, and the physical and psychological effects on people living in overcrowded conditions can be quite severe.
