Personal Statement For Nursing
Personal Statement

Nursing is not just a career choice for me. I am a family man with a big heart for helping others. My Myers-Briggs personality type is an ISFJ which means I am a person who is very supportive, reliable, and hard-working. I thrive on being able to help others who are in need during any situation regardless of whether it is required of me. Eric Thomas, a motivational speaker, said, “You will never be successful until I don’t have to give you a dime to do what you do.” I did not choose nursing because I am chasing money, I chose it because I would love to be a part of a team all working together for the benefit of those who are in need of help. If there is anyway that I can be useful to someone I will do everything I can

Alpha Mansaray Family Nurse Practitioner Program Wilmington University Statement of Goals As a child growing up in country of Sierra Leone during times of civil unrest, I watched my grandmother who lacked the ability to read and write care of an entire village of people because of the compassion she had for she fellow Africans. As she is much older now and no longer resides in Sierra Leone, she always reminds me of her story every now and then of how a young African girl without the ability to read or write was chosen by the U.N. and trained in the field of nursing, and with the amount of knowledge she acquired from them she was able to save countless lives during times of civil war. This passion has been passed down from generation to generation with my mother becoming and nurse and I, myself following in their footsteps and becoming part of the profession. There has always been a yearn within me to enter a profession such as nursing where I could provide compassionate care to those that may be going through uncertain times, and to one day return to Sierra Leone and have the ability to provide care to thousands of my fellow Africans that may not have access to healthcare.…

“Quack! Quack!” she exclaimed. “Yes it is bath time!” I replied as I gave my patient her nightly bath at my very first job as a nursing assistant for disabled adults. I remember initially being so excited to learn new procedures, medications and diseases. However, what I ultimately valued most during this experience was forming trusting, ongoing relationships with my patients (and learning that “Quack” meant bath!). The inimitable bond formed caring for these individuals motivated me to seek out a career in which I can provide meaningful and personalized care over time. Advanced practice nursing as a family nurse practitioner will allow me the opportunity to provide primary care services to individuals with chronic conditions beginning in childhood…

There have been many occasions in my life that I have spent time in hospitals, nursing homes and by the side of a sick relative. When my grandfather was dying of cancer, he spent as much time as he could at home with his family by his side and when the time came, he was transferred to hospital, I was 14 at the time, still very young I knew it was not about how I was feeling, this pain was his and my grandmothers. I helped look after him for the two years he was diagnosed and it was during that time, I knew where my heart was and that was nursing. With my own experience of being in and out of hospital with two complicated pregnancies, I was in awe of the nurses and midwives who did everything they could to make me feel secure and safe, I was inspired and made an already certain career choice, even more evident.…
