Personal Statement: Hi Coach Freebairn
Hi Coach Freebairn,
Thank you for the email! Sorry for the delayed response, I just returned from being out of town for the last week with my family. As I am looking for a college, I am definitely looking for a team that has a family feeling and mentality. I strongly believe that being apart of a team and having fun helps me work harder and perform better in the end. Outside of swimming I like to play piano and spend time with my family and friends. I have three younger siblings who keep me busy. I also like to go skiing in the winter time and occasionally do a puzzle I am in the mood. I am probably more of a movie then book type of girl. I tend to like the book version better then the movie, but its difficult for me to get really into a

The rush was overwhelming. My feet pounded the black pavement as the sweat soaked through my shirt. The finish line was already in view and the pride I felt when I crossed that line first was unexplainable. I believe Tatnall is a great choice for me because of its mission. The mission is to provide students with an excellent college preparatory education in a family atmosphere. Family is a major attribute of the school. I am drawn to family as well. I believe that the feeling of family and the support of family is a key to success that I would like to use. Regarding diversity, the mission further states that “each graduate will be prepared to succeed as a college or university student and to assume the important role of a responsible member of society in all its diversity." This is astonishing. Today, people are judged like books; by the cover rather than what’s inside. So, I believe I can be a part of what is “inside the book”, and look at others…

I never decided to be a part of a team because I knew I wasn’t athletic and I was very clumsy considering the number of times I've fallen when I ran in my physical education classes. As for clubs and organization, I started to be a part of the AVID program in seventh grade through senior year of high school. Joining the AVID program was my idea because I wanted to gain a better understanding of college. Since my parents never attended, they didn’t know the process of enrolling in college and other factors. The reason I stayed in AVID for so long wasn't just because of the field trips to colleges but also becoming a part of a family with my classmates and getting to know everyone, even more, every year.…

With your exceptionally well regarded campus, student diversity, educational atmosphere, brilliant programs, and the mere fact that you have recently provided the student body with the choice of this great states only NROTC program, how could it not? Rutgers offers near anything a student could desire to study and pursue, and with Rutgers beside you, I certainly believe that ones possibilities are infinite. The honor of being able to attend Rutgers is something I've always desired, but have yet to achieve. Perhaps now will be my time.…

Furthermore, I would be a leader on campus at Villanova. I am a natural leader and I am always focused on goals. As a leader, I work towards helping people achieve their own goals. When people come together to work towards a common goal, amazing things can happen. A true community can only take place when people are working towards common goals. As a swim coach, I get to lead people and be apart on their journey. I try to instil good values and never let them forget to have some fun. At Villanova, I will be a leader and will encourage…

With its number of total student enrollment at about 8,300 students, USD allows me to experience a mid-larger sized school while remaining comfortable in such a tight community. Since I am most likely not continuing my athletic career at USD, I would love to join and experience all different clubs offered here. I will love to still continue competing in sports and outdoor activities through club or intramural organizations for a variety of sports. The educational clubs offered at San Diego that really spark my interest are the Entrepreneurship Club, Founder’s Club, and many of the business focused clubs. Besides just basic clubs, I would also want to join greek life and participate in sorority of young woman who have very similar interests and values to me. Overall, I want to fully immerse myself into all aspects of the community that USD has to offer.…

When I was applying to college I talked to the coach of the University of Central Oklahoma cheerleading squad in hopes that I could tryout for the team. I thought that another commitment in addition to my school work would help to keep me focused for the second semester. One thing that I didn’t expect is the time and energy you need to put aside to play a sport in college. In high school, playing a sport was a much easier task. College sports are very competitive and the athletes playing for the college are the most talented in the school division. I am not saying that I am not capable of cheerleading at a college level; more that it would be a strenuous commitment for a beginning college student to handle. In comparison to high school sports, college sports are much more competitive. The experience and talent of the players are an obvious difference. High school sports differ from college sports in many ways.…

Joining the future business leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, becoming a youth leader at Christ Church, as well as many other volunteering activities helped me enrich my community, and make an impact in the world around me. Along with these organizations, I have played several sports in high school, in my junior and senior years I settled on my two favorite sports, track and field, and volleyball. Within these sports I have made friendships with my teammates I will never forget, and learned important lessons in humbleness when winning, and cohere with my friends when losing. By being a member of any sports teams at my high school, I regularly attended many of my school’s events, giving me the opportunity to develop relationships, and gain a tremendous sense of pride in my school. I am looking forward to bringing this same sense of pride to my college, and making many new friendships along the way. I learned over the course of my education to this point, that when I became more involved with these activities, my performance in the classroom increased alongside my…

As captain on the varsity cheerleading squad for two years, I have developed leadership qualities and can recognize the needs of others. I have also been involved in my school's choral program as a member of show and varsity choirs. These commitments taught me the importance of time management and dedication by being able to maintain a high GPA, leading to induction into National Honors Society. As a member, I am given the opportunity to serve in my community. Serving others is not a new concept for me. I am involved in my church's youth group, cheerleading, and as a volunteer for a nursing home. I enjoy helping others and the opportunity to serve. I plan to continue my level of school pride at UVU. If I had to pick one extracurricular activity to pursue in college, I would definitely choose club volleyball. Ever since I started playing volleyball in the 7th grade, I have been hooked. From that point on, the sport has become an invaluable part of me that has helped me grow into the person I am today. Since I joined volleyball two years after most of my peers, I was put on the “B-team.” I was determined to work as hard as I could to be placed on an advanced high school team. Thankfully, my hard work earned me a spot on a state-winning varsity roster as a freshman. We went on to win two state championships, and I personally received an All-West Region award. In this way, volleyball taught me that teamwork, dedication, and perseverance…

I’ve always tried to be very involved in my school. I’m a member of almost every club, but my heart lies with my cross country team. While I didn’t always enjoy running in the grueling heat, it taught me about teamwork, dedication, and endurance. More often than not, my coach would be chuckling at me because I was trying to push a fellow teammate that wanted to walk. I made it my personal goal to push my teammates and help them do their best. My team got region champions in 2010 and this past season. Needless to say, we made our coach very proud.…

Because my good grades allowed, I became a tutor in hopes of improving my teaching skills. Another thing I struggle with is public speaking; it is not something that I am comfortable doing. My undergraduate courses have helped me to become more comfortable with public speaking. The more I do it, the more comfortable I will become. I am a very driven person and I strive to better myself everyday. If I am faced with a task that I am not fully comfortable with I will network with others who posses the correct knowledge and research the topic myself to become more comfortable. I abide by the evidence based practice philosophy set forth by the academy. My strong will and perseverance has led me to success in academics and athletics. Swimming at the Division 1 level was a source of extra physical and mental stress on an already stressful road to pursuing an undergraduate degree. The countless early mornings, months of training, and missed classes for competitions all taught me how to manage my time wisely. I am extremely proud that I had the strength and determination to finish my four years of NCAA eligibility as a swimmer, a feat that few have accomplished. I am a highly analytical person, as I like to analyze many different angles to an issue before I make a decision. I am thorough in my decision making process so I do not miss important information. Being an athlete and having a strong…
