Personal Statement Of Purpose: A Career As A Mental Health Nurse
Inspired by the vision of working in a people caring environment, my chosen career route would help me fulfil my aspirations. Mental health nursing would give me the chance to make a real and positive change in people's lives. This would give me a chance to study something that involves both academic and practical studies, which I feel would suit me best. This course would allow me to attain the qualification I require and prepare me towards a very rewarding career.
I am a hard working individual who has excellent communication skills that allow me to communicate at all levels. I developed my people skills when working in a pharmacy, meeting diverse people with different needs. I am a reliable individual, who can cope well under pressure. In college, I always meet strict deadlines and ensure I work to the best of my ability with all my studies. Work placements I've taken part in, have changed me into a very committed and determined candidate to succeed my ultimate goal in becoming a successful graduate.

This gave me a greater knowledge on different people's experiences and how they react to change. The area's that particularly interested me is looking at the reliability of diagnosis of mental illness and difficulties in diagnosing sane from insane. By studying mental health nursing I have the opportunity to witness this myself. The study of sociology appreciates different theories and perspectives of society that has given me an understanding of social problems. I slept with an inhaler and a nebulizer next to my bed in the event of the next attack.
