I have dedicated most of my weekends to my schoolwork. This was my first major decision when I started taking courses at UoPeople and I informed my family of my decision. So far, may son and my wife have been very supportive, and I do not get interrupted by them when I am working on my assignments. Occasional fifteen minute breaks and a one hour lunch each weekend day, allow me to spend as much as twelve hours a day to complete my work. Of course, not being a native English speaker, I must spend extra time on correcting spelling,
grammar and proofreading my writings. It also takes more effort to transfer my ideas onto paper, since those thoughts first need to be translated and be modified in order to make my writings look coherent and meaningful.
Secondly, I have forced myself to easily say no to friends and relatives who would want to socialize on the weekends. I still get interrupted occasionally by phone calls, but I do not hold lengthy conversations and politely bring the calls to an end.
The third strategy I have adopted to deal with time management is to combine several activities together. On weekday afternoons, after work, I try to schedule different chores and tasks to be done in the same part of town, so I won't have to spend more time outside my home on different days to do chores that everyone has to deal with from time to time. Issues like, doctors appointments, shopping, and certain weekly activities outside the home, can all be attended to in one or two evenings weekly. I dedicate the rest of the evenings to even more schoolwork.
