Perspectives of Leadership
Perspectives of leadership are based on individuals and the individualism of the organization itself. This makes the lives of many different because of the needs that each individual organization. Being a leader is a critical issue that can be interpreted in different perspectives. It would not be fair to give leaders a generic definition based on researches that have been made by many. This paper will look at my perspective of leadership.
In the views of various researchers and everyday people, leadership is a skill that not that many have. Leadership can be viewed very differently as by everybody. Few individuals believe that leadership is influencing others with their management titles. Those managers have not stopped to think that those individuals do not believe they are leaders, those individuals respect the title and not the individual behind the title. "Leadership is interpersonal influence, exercised in a situation, and directed, through the communication process, toward the attainment of a specified goal or goals.” Tannenbaum et al. (1961, p.24) The today’s leaders are not associated with control but with the ability to make others follow you as a leader with respect, getting others to do share the same goal, in other words, the leader needs to inspire others to go their job done and serve the company well. At the same time the leader and the team needs to share their vision among the team. Leadership is not domination, leadership is persuasion. Its individuals who will make others do their bidding because they believe in the leader and what they are serving for. A leader is the one who can have others follow without the need of authority and power. In other words, individuals will willingly adapt to changes and for period of time those individuals will make the goal their own and will display eagerness.
