However, atheists might argue that God may have given us freedom, and therefore must punish us when we chose the wrong path, but why should innocent people, especially children, suffer? If God …show more content…
is omnibenevolent, he should punish those who chose evil not the innocent. Victims of evil have to suffer because otherwise the one who chose evil wouldn’t have the choice to conflict pain, but if God is omnipotent he should at least stop natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes . It isn’t right that those who haven’t committed sins should suffer.
Suffering is not a punishment, it is a process, a part of life, a release of all your sins.
The more you suffer, the better the reward after life. Everyone who has done wrong in God’s eyes will suffer at some point, God is just, “And having been set free of sin, have become slave of righteousness”, Romans 8:1-4. The results of natural disasters are usually catastrophic, but this is not God’s doing. We, as humans with the gift to make our own choices, drain wetlands, build huge buildings over fault zones we know are dangerous, and have emitted 36,138,285 million kilotons of CO2 (by 2014) as a planet, causing climate change. God placed humans on the earth with the instructions to take care of it, to use it wisely and carefully and to take care of the environment. Unfortunately, we have allowed greed and selfishness to be the guiding force too often. "For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." - Colossians 1:16-17, why would God destroy something that was created by him and for
him?
People suffer so that we can strive to be omnibenevolent, just like God, and find it in our hearts to help those who suffer, no matter their sins; “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound” Isaiah 61:1. The suffering of people gives us the chance to help, because it is one of the ultimate ways to chose love, God may be omnibenevolent but love isn’t possible without a choice.
