Acceptance of responsibility begins with the courage to denounce actions and terms that continue to vilify us as a people. The continued escalation of crimes committed in our homes and communities by people of color is an action that needs to cease immediately. The deep rooted anger that blacks have for each other is extremely damaging and only helps to annihilate the black community. Terms that we have embraced such as nigger, thug, goon, and even the term black on black crime paints a very vivid picture of how little respect we have for ourselves and one another. The current rap industry continues to plague us with these terms by describing other black entertainers, black athletes, and black women. If we are publicly showing so much disrespect for ourselves, how can we possibly expect respect from others?
