In about a quarter of fatal dog-bite cases, the dog owners were previously involved in illegal fighting. The dogs that bite people are, in many cases, socially isolated because their owners are socially isolated, and they are vicious because they have owners who want a vicious dog. The junk-yard German shepherd -- which looks as if it would rip your throat out -- and the German shepherd guide dog are the same breed. But they are not the same dog, because they have owners with different intentions. (qtd. in Argument in support of breed bans).…

Any dog, treated harshly or trained to attack, may bite a person. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog. The owner most often is responsible; not the breed, and not the dog. An irresponsible owner or dog handler might create a situation that places another person in danger by a dog, without the dog itself being dangerous, for example: leaving an infant alone with a dog. It is all in how you raise the dog to act and react to people. You could make a Labrador retriever bite and attack someone if that is what you wanted. It is not the breed of the dog that makes them aggressive or more prone to bite, it is the owner. Any individual dog may be a good, loving pet, even though its breed is considered to be likely to bite. A responsible owner can win the love and respect of a dog, no matter what its breed. One cannot look at an individual dog, recognize its breed, and then state whether or not it is going to…

There are many ways in which people tend to abuse of animals. An example is neglect, meaning that between a pet and the owner there is a “failure to provide an animal with the most basic of requirements of food, water, shelter and veterinary care” (What). Dogfighting is another example. Dogfights are events when two dogs are put inside a fighting pit and are forced to fight until the other one is dead or is too weak to fight back. It is understood that most people have come in contact with a pit bull at some point in their lifetime and, in some cases, they were positive experiences. Many people argue that the pit bulls in which they have met were always very sweet dogs. This may be true, however, pit bulls have displayed their ability to viciously snap without warning. Warning signs were culled out of their genes to make them the most effective at fighting other dogs.
