Do you pray before every meal? Do you ever wonder why you pray before every meal? Well if you didn’t know, you pray before every meal because you show God that you’re thankful for the food you eat everyday. Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca prayed before every meal, but he didn’t always have good food to eat. Infact, most of the things he had weren’t very good at all. Here’s some brief background of whom Cabeza de Vaca is. Cabeza de Vaca was a Spanish soldier, but he was also on an expedition to the New World for Spain. Things didn’t go too well for him, as his ship wrecked in Tampa (they were supposed to be in present day Texas). The captain ordered 5 groups of 10 people to go on a raft. In a year of sailing Cabeza and 3 other people were only left. Overnight, Cabeza was separated from the other 3, and washed up on an island he…

Even toddlers too young to make grocery lists can help you make choices (pears or nectarines? cheddar or swiss?) along the way. Simple, no-cook recipes like frozen yogurt popsicles or fruit parfaits are an excellent way to get young chefs interested in healthy cooking and eating.…

The state of school lunches has been a point of debate for many since Michelle Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act signed into law December of 2010, giving full authority to the USDA in setting the nutritional standards for all foods regularly sold in school lunch lines, stores, and vending machines. The law was set to provide additional funding to meet the updated standards, however, the cost was severely underestimated. Using data provided by Medicaid, eligibility for the free or reduced school lunch programs has seen a definite increase, although participation has not (Lee, 2010). In a press release, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius was quoted saying “The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act is a significant step forward in our effort to help America's children thrive and grow to be healthy adults... By increasing the number of students eligible to enroll in school meal programs and improving the quality of food served, this legislation simultaneously tackles both hunger and the obesity levels currently affecting too many communities across this nation.” I would like to draw attention to her careful wording of “...step forward in our effort...” A subject as incredibly important as the nutrition of…

Latinos. They’re a problem. Whenever most people go down the street they see more and more taco trucks and party shops with frilly chairs up in the front with the word QUINCEANERA printed in bold face. Good old Americans no longer have to buy a lawn mower and mow their lawns themselves because they can just call up a guy named Juan and ask him to do it for less than minimum. All of our hard earned American dollars are being wasted on “immigration reform” because apparently a visa is “hard” to get. However, there is a solution to this growing problem. Since, President Elect Donald J. Trump will build a wall to keep the rest out, and since all immigrants are illegal rapists, criminals, and drug dealers, instead of granting them visas, we make them learn their lesson and throw them over the wall with a catapult. It’s a sure fire way to make America great again.…

"It's not just a game," to many athletes this statement rings true. Sports fuel the drive and determination within people, and provide them an essential learning tool from which they can grow. Competitive is defined as, "of or relating to a situation in which people or groups are trying to win a contest or be more successful than other : relating to or involving competition ."(merriam-webster.com) This concept of competitiveness is the foundation of all sports. The competitive spirit and thirst to want to better oneself in order to be at the top is a fueling force that will propel our children far beyond their years on the court. Providing children with equal playing time in youth sports discourages the necessary need for healthy competition and takes away valuable life lessons that will prepare them for the future.…
