When I was younger my parents wouldn't buy me a dirt bike, at that time I thought they were being unreasonable and not looking after me. Obviously, now that i'm older I know exactly why they were scared of me riding a motorcycle. Riding a motorcycle is a dangerous activity and there is a high learning curve associated with it. Even though it went against my parent's better judgement. I saved my money and bought myself a dirtbike and later a street bike. The dirtbike involves going fast over rocks ruts and mud and riding on loose slippery surfaces. An accident in the middle of the desert or woods can turn deadly. But looking at stats of motorcycle deaths, one might be surprised that riding on the street is a lot more dangerous than riding off road. There are not enough mandated programs or at least programs with incentives attached to motorcycle licensing in the United States. This is an important issue because thousands of motorcycle riders lose their lives every year and we can do something about it. It's a preventable issue to a degree. If good people losing their lives over something so small isn't enough we can discuss the financial burden it places on society as well.The hospital bill, injury time off work, and all legal aspects of it cost taxpayer money. Another reason we should care is that we should strive for safer roadways for everyone driving. A safer road for motorcycles is definitely a safer road for automobiles.
