On the website sleepfoundation.org they did a research which stated, "The delay in release time for students also means that students with after-school jobs may be affected. This issue is important for certain students and their families who rely on the extra income to get by. Therefore, the change may disproportionately affect low income families." For low income families they might not be able to pay the bills if their child doesn't work with school, work, and homework it is hard to be able to get the recommended amount of sleep and do everything else that busy high school students have to face. In an article on the website parentingteens.about.com it states "Delaying the start time of high schools within a district could pose problems with bus schedules, after school activities, and sporting events. Most districts already have staggered start times for the schools and they report that delaying the high school start time would have a domino effect on all the schools that could …show more content…
pose a logistical nightmare."
There has been studies although that have shown that a later start time result in a better focus during school. An article on sleepfoundation.org stated that, "Teens are among those least likely to get enough sleep; while they need on average 9 1/4 hours of sleep per night for optimal performance, health and brain development, teens average fewer than 7 hours per school night by the end of high school, and most report feeling tired during the day." This could also be true if school started later, because most teenagers would take this as an advantage to stay up later and wake up later getting potentially the same amount of sleep as they would if school started earlier. These are my reasons why school should start at the same time.
