Thesis: When coaching unmotivated players, I will reward them, keep them involved in practices, and set realistic goals for my team.
I. Introduction: Motivation is a key element of a successful team. Using the submissive style of coaching, I will direct my players in having their mind set towards the goal we set to motivate them throughout the season. I will propel my players to give it their all until there is no time left in the game by motivating them using different methods.
II. I will reward my players to keep them motivated.
a. Athletes are motivated to fulfill their needs, and their primary needs when participating in sports are to have fun and feel worthy by experiencing success. I will reward them will intrinsic and extrinsic rewards.

Intrinsically, I will make sure my players have fun playing the sport and enjoy what they’re doing by rewarding them with an activity of their choice at the end of practice.
III. I will keep my players motivated in practice.
a. To keep the athletes involved, I will vary my drills and activities to work on different skills.
b. In my practices, I will run drills that involves the whole team so everyone is active and moving rather than standing around and waiting their turn for a drill.
c. I will know my athlete’s abilities so I can challenge them in practice but not make it so difficult that they see no chance to succeed and feel overwhelmed.
IV. I will motivate my team by setting realistic goals.
a. I want to put emphasis on achieving personal goals for each individual player and achieving goals as a team to keep everyone motivated.
b. For example, a team goal would be to have a minimal number of turnovers per basketball game.
c. As for a personal goal, I would have the players set a reasonable number of points to get each game to motivate them to reach that goal.
