Pleasantville is based on somewhere that begins as the ideal place. It is clearly a phase one Romance world. Everyone lives without any problems. Pleasantville is set out to be a place of perfection. In Pleasantville, before the town is ruined, everything appears in black and white, and all the people are apparently content with their lives. For example, nothing here can catch fire, and the firefighters only have to rescue cats out of trees. Changes all started to occur because of the change of society, and how Bud and Mary Sue changed the daily routine. From changes of how the soda shop is run, to Jennifer having sex, and both of them teaching the community art and literature. Without the changes, society would not have had differences in appearance, and even opinions. These facts go hand in hand with the intiall phase of romance. A place of all natural things, people, and places. It all goes back to the story of “Adam and Eve”, how the garden was beautiful, and how no imperfections could occur, until the apple was eaten from the tree of good and evil. This shows that things in life are not meant to be perfect, and the changes in Pleasantville helped state those facts.
