Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, in the Kingdom of Württemberg in the German Empire on 14 March 1879.[10] His father was Hermann Einstein, a salesman and engineer. His mother was Pauline Einstein (née Koch). In 1880, the family moved to Munich, where his father and his uncle founded Elektrotechnische Fabrik J. Einstein & Cie, a company that manufactured electrical equipment based on direct current.[10]

The Einsteins were non-observant Jews. Albert attended a Catholic elementary school from the age of five for three years. At the age of eight, he was transferred to the Luitpold Gymnasium (now known as the Albert Einstein Gymnasium) where he received advanced primary and secondary school education until he left Germany seven years later.[11] Contrary to popular suggestions that he had struggled with early speech difficulties, the Albert Einstein Archives indicate he excelled at the first school that he attended.[12] He was right-handed;[12][13] there appears to be no evidence

Young Albert tried to imagine the mysterious force that caused the compass needle to move, and the experience awakened a sense of wonder that stayed with him for life. Understanding the universe became an "eternal riddle" for Einstein, a quest for scientific enlightenment. "The road to this paradise was not as comfortable and alluring as the road to the religious paradise," he wrote, "but it has proved itself as trustworthy, and I have never regretted having chosen it."- www.amnh.org/exhibitions/einstein/life/ Albert Einstein was a poor student and although he did not earn top grades in every subject, he excelled at math and science. "It is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle," he wrote, "that the modern methods of instruction have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry." Schilpp, 1970. p. 17. Being fiercely independent, even as a young boy, Albert had already developed a deep distrust of authority. He challenged not only his teachers but also long-standing mathematical and scientific "givens," such as ancient Greek rules of geometry and laws of physics established by other scientists. Ironically, Einstein's questioning and resulting breakthroughs eventually turned him into an authority…

The United States has long been considered a “Nation of Immigrants.” According to 2009 American Community Survey estimates, about one in eight U.S. residents are foreign-born. These racially diverse immigrants come from all over the world to the United States for a variety of reasons, but most seek a better life for themselves and their families. However, some groups encounter significant challenges to achieving the “American dream.” This course will examine the political, social, and economic factors that contribute to the unequal incorporation of immigrant groups from different parts of the world. It will also explore how immigrants and their children have mobilized to secure rights and equal opportunities. Particular attention will be paid to the experiences of immigrants in Los Angeles and New York, the two metropolitan areas with the largest foreign-born populations.…

Einstein became an American citizen in 1940. Not long after settling into his career at the Institute for Advanced Study (in Princeton, New Jersey), he expressed his appreciation of the "meritocracy" in American culture when compared to Europe. According to Isaacson, he recognized the "right of individuals to say and think what they pleased", without social barriers, and as result, the individual was "encouraged" to be more creative, a trait he valued from his own early education. Einstein writes:…

The name Einstein has become practically synonymous with the word genius. Einstein once said, “The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has it’s limits.”. Einstein was a creative man, this led him to be such an innovative scientist. In 1955, Einstein died from an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Einstein began his schooling in Munich at the Luitpold Gymnasium (Nobel). He generally received good grades and was outstanding in mathematics, but he hated the academic high school that he attended in Munich, “where success depended on memorization and obedience to arbitrary authority” (Formative). His studying was mainly done at home with mathematics, physics, and philosophy books (Formative). In 1894, when Einstein was 15, his parents moved to Italy, and six months later, he left the Munich without finishing his schooling to join his family in Pavia, Italy (Grosz). In 1895, he took the entrance exam for the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and failed (Formative). He renounced his German citizenship in 1896 (Grosz). He continued his education at Aarau, Switzerland and he entered the Swiss Federal Technical School in Zurich in 1896 to be trained as a mathematics and physics teacher (Nobel). Around this time, he realized that physics was his true subject (Formative). A romance arose at the Zurich Polytechnic between Einstein and Mileva Maric, the only woman in his physics class (Formative). Einstein’s family opposed any talk of marriage, even when Mileva gave birth to a daughter, who was probably given up for adoption (Formative).…
