In the police force in the Ferguson area, there were “allegations involving use of force that raised questions” (50). Police officers rarely stay in the same department over their career. Therefore, there is almost no familiarity between the officers, and the community they are serving in. Most of the revenue of…
Society has become aware of rules to defend their rights against every policeman; making a policeman an enemy can cause problems to you in the future when you are in need of help from police. Police officers are usually in the view of everyone they protect and help out people, sometimes police officers are seen as cruel when using exesive force, but you have to keep in mind that police officers have family and they want to go home every day to…
Now a days America is split into two groups when it comes to how we feel toward the police. There are some who are pro- police while others identify as anti-police. In the Spike Lee movie, “Do the Right Thing” the police are not viewed in a positive light. The police are portrayed as the type of authority that abuses the power that comes with the responsibility of carrying around a shiny badge while also giving off the vibe of being racist. While we see police as our role models because of their actions in this film, they are not seen as so.…
We as everyday individuals leading lives employed with companies that involve filing, scanning, making/taking phone calls, etc. need to be aware and appreciative what the police do for our communities. We also need to remember that the police are still human just like you and I and that there is going to come a time that an officer makes a mistake or makes a bad decision that could possibly place one behind…
Officers merely reflect the attitudes and fears of a racist society, lately this has had a lot of attention in social medias and on TV and there has been different kinds of protests against it, even riots.…
Police brutality for many decades has plagued society. It is the abuse of physical force, intimidation or coercion that some officers feel that comes with the badge, and it is inflicted on society. Among the umbrella of police power there are many racial and ethnic minorities, by large believe that police officers will use unauthorized procedures against them. This goes back to a long history of police and their job to track down slaves and keep a social divide between black and white societies (Cooper, 2015 p 1189). This can result in violence, false charges, and or having to pay higher fines for minor crimes. The majority of the time when seeing a patrol officer they are on patrol (Fritsch, Liederbach, Taylor & Caeti, 2009, p17)…
“ I am tired of reading news articles involving deadly use of force; the media is quick to point out the race of the officer, the race of the suspect, and whether or not the suspect had a weapon.” says Josh Crosby author of the article Media Frenzy- Officer Safety Nightmare. Do you ever wonder why society is so hateful towards the police department when the police department is sometimes justified in their actions? The media has the power to sway the opinions of society about the police department because of the way they present the information given to them. Most current events are initiated by the media and the media’s effect on people. When it comes to the police department the media has used their jobs to report the news in an unprofessional manner by creating biases based on race to make society focus only on race. It has become a circus out there! The Media should not be allowed to do this because the media gives people the image that the police department was not made to protect us, riots are formed, and this increases the number of cases involving police brutality.…
We all know as a police officer their job is protect us citizens while trying to detect and fight crime. Because that is their job we trust them to always do the right thing and do right by the law. Unfortunately that doesn’t always happen. There are hundreds of cases all around the world about police officers harming and even killing completely innocent people leaving hundreds of families with broken hearts and no answers to why an innocent life was taken daily. This is known as police brutality. Because this is starting to happen very often people now look at police and no longer get that sense of protection, but instead we now fear the police. Police officers are now looked at as the monsters of our society.…
The police role and how they use their power To Serve and Protect others suggests two important facets of police work it’s centrally protective role and it’s service orientation. Do police protect and serve everybody equally? Protect the community fairly? Which community? For both good and bad reasons, American society does not comprise a single community but many and though these communities overlap and intersect in many ways they are often separated and ranked. Unarmed black males have most often been the victims of excessive police force. If the police that are supposed to entrust for people’s protection of body and property are no longer responsible for protecting them, people must question their purpose…
It funny how many people have to get The Talk from their parents to let them know what to do when cops are around. It's sad that people have to stay as far away from the cops as possible to not feel in harm's way. People say police officers have very hard jobs and sometimes they will have to do things they don't want to. I say that everyone is held to their own actions and should not be walking around in the police uniform if they are not a person who will do the right thing at all times.…
A student ride-along allows the student to observe the use of discretion and techniques that are used by the police officers who patrol our communities. Many people falsely believe that policing is what they see portrayed in the media. We never realize that there is much more to police work then what we consider entertaining or even amusing. By watching a patrol officer in the field, I was able to gain valuable insights into questions concerning why police officers stop certain individuals, why some individuals are taken into custody while others are not, and lastly how the discretion of an officer affects how they perform their jobs. I will discuss these three questions while using three separate situations that…
Like when there are criminals on the loose, they are there to stop them. Instead, there are others who can’t do their job right, some cops think that the best way to deal with problems are to shoot the victims. The law states that you can’t fire at someone is unarmed. Cops should have better training for when it is the right time to use their gun at the right time. With situations like this, it is the reason why the “Black Lives Matter Movement” exists today. In August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, Missouri, 18-year-old Michael Brown African- American was shot by a white police being…
We have all seen the news, and we have all heard of police brutality. The cases are all the same; an african american citizen was killed by a cop for “no reason.” Well, the truth is, most cops are not these racist, Ku Klux Klan members we think picture them to be. Media is the real villain, twisting words and adding in extra details to these stories. Overall, the media is framing the cops into being the bad guys, and unfortunately, the strangers we should trust most are being visualized as the bad guys.…
Police majority of the time are just doing their jobs in abiding the laws of the land. The real racism that is levied upon minorities takes place in the courtroom in such ways like, unequal selection of biased jury members in certain cases and the high percentage of white male judges who have the ability to interpret and carry out the law how they see…
Being a police officer is one of the hardest jobs around. They are trained and hired to "protect and serve" their communities and they are constantly in the public eye. Everything that they do is criticized by the people who are watching them. Like in every other profession, there are some who should really not be doing that job, and those people give a bad name to the really good and dedicated officers that work so hard to take care of people.…
