This is overflowing into all aspects of life, including things done everyday -- like texting, calling, or even face-to-face interaction. Not everything said is construed properly. Straying away from dictionary meaning, words are beginning to become more and more difficult to properly understand. The tone and connotation of a word plays a great part in the way the word is interpreted.
Many, however; believe political correctness is improving society rather than damaging it. In his article “Are You Easily Offended,” Daniel Jacobs discusses the importance of political correctness in the workplace. “If it’s offensive, it shouldn’t appear anywhere” (Jacobs). The explanation of words in a non offensive way is the only way they should be expressed. People must be considerate of how other’s feel. The truth is not getting the justice it deserves. Society’s judgement is clouded by the concern of how someone feels about something causing the truth to stay hidden rather than prevail against the evils of the world. Political correctness is making it harder and harder to decipher what is morally correct.
Political correctness was designed by people who never official grew up, but yet still want the comfort of being able to discriminate people who are unlike them just as playground bullies do (O’Neill 1). This allows the person to feel as though they are better than the other. Society has lead people to believe that everyone needs to fit in a perfect little box, and if someone does not, others are given the right to downgrade them.
The obstacle of trying to decode what people say and what people mean is a difficult one to overcome. Self expression is frowned upon due to political correctness. Society has deceived what a words intended meaning is, and it has manipulated words to express them in a way where no one is offended by
