After becoming Prime Minister, she was member of the parliament, Education Secretary and Leader of the Opposition. As Member of Parliament, she was in fact against the high-tax policies of the Labour Government and she did not support homosexuality and she wanted to legalize abortion. Thatcher also supported the maintenance of capital punishment and she was against divorce laws. As Education Secretary, she gave priority to academic needs in schools and made cuts in the nutrition of the children, by doing this she had then provoked a massive protest from the Labour party.
