THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS
INTRODUCTION
Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is known for being an educational institution exhibiting wide variety of students who are engaged on issues in politics, social welfare, and the like. Its environment undeniably affects the attitude and behavior of its enrollees specially their stand, viewpoints, and perspectives upon different matters. Thus, this research, The Influence of the Democratic Environment of Polytechnic University of the Philippines to the Lives of the Selected Grade 12 Students of PUP Manila, SY 2017-2018 seeks to understand how the PUP society gave birth to changes, both positive and negative, to its students on Senior High School Department.

They are officers or members of some organizations at PUP with ages ranging from 16 to 19 years old. They came from different tracks and strands, and also, different clubs and/or organizations.
Democratic environment is a type of place wherein values, morals, and beliefs are expressed in a progressive manner. In the case of PUP Manila, the state university has an image for being a nest of students who are socially-inclined individuals. In the form of school’s different organizations, many students took the opportunity to be engaged either academically or socially.
Numerous studies claim that influences on one’s attitude are of great importance for it bring changes to people consistently, either positively or negatively. Environment, on the other hand, is a great medium for the ‘effects’ to be made upon an individual. That is why, it is expected that every people on a particular society, whatever its kind is, will participate in an actively manner towards an agenda for it to become influential. Students under this grade are people whose ages are ranging from 16 to 19 years old. Typically, this age bracket is where kids, or rather youth experience the stage of adolescence. Adolescents are more likely to explore there unveiling world; thus, they are craving to open many doors of opportunities that are right in front of them; a collective whom they believe themselves to be a part of.
But before they face a whole new world, they first contemplated upon the concept of self. Their own personality, opinions, and lifestyle. This idea therefore creates a simple line of realization wherein all individuals think highly of their personal traits and needs to form a decision to change or retain themselves. After all, behind those images we let people see from us, they are all part of ‘dramaturgical intervention’, as supposed by Irving Goffman which states that people have its own set of stages ¬¬¬--- both the front and the
