Since my current employer does not have a Union Agreement I decided to write about the Contract Extension Agreement between Akron City School District (Akron, New York 14001) and The Akron Faculty Association (July 1,2011-June 30,2014). The new agreement is the same as the 2007-2011agreement except for a few changes with the health care and compensation sections. The contract doesn’t enclose the specific amount of wages for positions but Article 8 of the agreement talks about compensation. Section 8.1 states that new hire teachers may be hired above and beyond Step I of the Bachelors or Master’s Degree schedules at the Superintendents discretion. Section 8.2 discusses salary schedule for teachers which are covered by this Agreement and the rules governing placement of teachers on such schedule, along with rules for method of salary payment for the current year, are set forth in the salary schedule contained herein. Section 8.4 states that Unit members who are 10 months employees, may elect to receive 21 or 22 or 26 or 27 salary payments for the September through June employment period. These salary payments shall commence with the first or second Friday of the school year. For those unit members who elect 26 or 27 salary payments option, the additional 5 checks shall be drawn and received with the last paycheck in June. Section 8 goes on to discuss compensation for extracurricular services, the band director, guidance counselors, audio-visual coordinator, teacher’s assistants and so forth. Section 8.8 covers Severance of Retirement Benefits. Any teacher meeting retirement eligibility in accordance with this Article or any teacher with permanent voluntary severance of duty with at least 20 years of service to the District shall receive: 8.8.1; A sum of $30.00 per day of accumulated sick leave credit to a maximum of 270 days ($8,100) beginning with the 2007school year. 8.8.2;

    Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive, non-reversible disease that makes breathing difficult. COPD is characterized by coughing, often productive; wheezing; shortness of breath; and chest tightness. The leading cause of COPD is cigarette smoking (National Institutes of Health, 2013). While 85 % of COPD patients are or were smokers, only 10-25 percent of smokers develop COPD, suggesting that a genetic predisposition may also be a factor (Warren, 2012). COPD is the third leading cause of death and major cause of disability in the United States (National Institutes of Health, 2013).…

    In reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn I found that he tells many “stretchers” out through the book and they sometimes get him into trouble; sometimes they get him out of trouble, but are they a good thing or a bad thing with him telling these “stretchers”. I am going to talk about three of the “stretchers” he told and the first one is when he went back to town pretending to be a little girl. The second one is when he told the men that his family was stranded on a boat somewhere with a disease. And the last one is will be talking about is when he told Jim that he didn’t remember what happen on that foggy night.…

    The Atlantic slave trade, known as the ‘triangular trade’ was a voyage that European ships took to exchange manufactured goods for slaves In Africa and those slaves were then taken to the Americas and were traded for goods such as sugar, cotton, tobacco and other goods. Between 1660-1807 millions of Africans were brought to the Americas under Britain’s authority. The Atlantic Slave Trade significantly stimulated economic growth in Britain in many ways, one being that Britain was the foremost European country engaged in the slave trade. Sugar, tobacco and other goods were hot commodities and Britain was a supplier for this good in the West Indies. In order to supply others with this commodity, Britain needed more workers working on plantation, which is why Britain bought slaves from Africa. Countless people in Britain profited from the Atlantic slave trade making it possible for the city to flourish, building mansions, banks and industries. Historians argue over the specific effects that the Atlantic slave trade had on the economy but despite their opinions, it is clear that the slave trade played a major role in the economical development of Britain.…

    The following essay which were I am comparing and contrasting the differences and similarities of the movie The Matrix and Plato’s and Descartes articles. The similarities that all three has is they are all asking is the world we live in is it real or is it a figment of our imagination and someone is playing a mean joke on us. They also talk about our minds being controlled by someone or something outside of us, much more like an outer body experience. The Matrix is not real and focuses more on the mind and how the mind is being manipulated and Pluto is talking about the senses and how the senses can be manipulated and can confuse us and put doubts in our mind. In the Matrix, Mr. Anderson who is better known by the name Neo, works for a software corporation but at night he is a computer hacker. All articles discuss some type of reflections and different meaning about life and how we view it. The Matrix was a computer with programming simulation of the world that was experienced by virtual lives by being an individual player. They saw what it felt like to be born, growing up, getting a job, getting old, and dying. Mr. Anderson aka “Neo” couldn’t accept “The Matrix”, he had all types of mixed emotions and then thought that his life was a lie.…

    For my informative speech I chose the topic of Chinese New Years. I discussed about the history, the festivities and the calendar. While reviewing my speech I found some mistakes that I can change for better improvement for future speeches. As I listened to myself I can tell that I was really nervous and trembling. With those two actions it did affect my speech and how I came off to the audience. First, my introduction was of my speech intends the audience to ask questions, such as “What does it mean?”, “What is it?”, and “What significance does it represent?” My main point were informative and was straight to the point, however, I think I should have included more details to really make the audience understand the importance of the traditions of the Chinese New Year. I think I should have extended the story of the Chinese New Year by including the many stories told by many storytellers. My other main points I should have included why it was important, and how it is labeled to be what it is. For example, the red envelope brings good luck and money. However, my point was weak to determine why it was red, and why it did bring good luck. Also, why do we give money instead of other things, maybe a letter, or a card that says great things. My strong points I would like to point out would have to be the structure and research of the materials I found the paragraphs I formed. Knowing a little about the Chinese New Year, exploring more on it with resources from the Internet, articles, books, and even asking my elders, I have learned even more about the importance of the Chinese New Year. The structure I have put my writing from the history to the traditions to the time when it is celebrated keeps the audience focused while excluding transitions words. My memorable ending was Chuc Mung Nam Moi, which was the closing of my speech, representing my conclusion. I started my speech with the…

    When I looked in the dictionary under “sisterhood”, it said “the state or relation of being a sister”; it’s more than just that. Sisterhood is a feeling beyond words. It’s a feeling of warmth and comfort. It means knowing that someone will be there for you under all circumstances, that they accept you for who you are, and that they will support you in everything you do. When I think of the word sisterhood, I think of more than one individual sharing a blood like connection. A sister is someone who you can talk to when you can't talk to anyone else. Someone you can get into an argument with and laugh within the next second because you know each other didn't mean it in a harmful way. She is someone who can make you laugh when you feel like crying, and will always keep authentic with you by not telling you what you want to hear but what you need to hear. That someone you can depend on to be your rock when everything else is shaky. I believe that sisterly love means to accept your sister for what and who she is flaws and all.…
