Sisterhood
When I looked in the dictionary under “sisterhood”, it said “the state or relation of being a sister”; it’s more than just that. Sisterhood is a feeling beyond words. It’s a feeling of warmth and comfort. It means knowing that someone will be there for you under all circumstances, that they accept you for who you are, and that they will support you in everything you do. When I think of the word sisterhood, I think of more than one individual sharing a blood like connection. A sister is someone who you can talk to when you can't talk to anyone else. Someone you can get into an argument with and laugh within the next second because you know each other didn't mean it in a harmful way. She is someone who can make you laugh when you feel like crying, and will always keep authentic with you by not telling you what you want to hear but what you need to hear. That someone you can depend on to be your rock when everything else is shaky. I believe that sisterly love means to accept your sister for what and who she is flaws and all. Sisterhood is a pat on the back, a friendly hug, a cheerful hello. Sisterhood is about doing the little things to make your sister smile. It’s everything that a good and lasting friendship is, but ten times better. Sisterhood knows that there will always be someone around whom you can talk to or share your stories with, no matter what. Sisterhood is about sharing dreams and achieving goals together. It’s aspiring to reach greater heights and exceed expectations together. Sisterhood is about counting on others and being counted on to make a difference. Sisterhood is something sacred and treasured. Sisterhood is showing & telling others the good that you do. Sisterhood is learning about people. It’s about learning about life. It’s about learning to give back to your campuses and communities selflessly. Sisterhood is so many things at once. Simply said, it’s the ultimate experience of a

The short stories “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst and “My Brother’s Keeper” by Jay Bennet are both realistic examples of family dynamics and how they can affect the way siblings treat each other. “The Scarlet Ibis” demonstrates how older siblings tend to feel the need to assist or help their younger siblings in things they cannot do, often leaving the younger siblings codependent on the older siblings for everything. In comparison, “My Brother’s Keeper” demonstrates how trauma can lead to siblings leaching to each other and becoming reliant, more often one more than the other. Even when two people are not siblings but are close, one person can become codependent on the other, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is the prime example of this.…

The character in this story, Sister, seems to be in a way jealous and a little selfish, but with good reason, she has a sister, Stella-rondo, who has always been everyone's favorite and everyone would believe everything she said, from her saying that Sister was "one-sided to her,( Stella-Rondos ) "adopted" child. Sister has every reason to not like Stella-Rondo. Everyone else in the house seems to think that Sister is indeed very jealous of Stella-Rondo, and Sister can not even defend herself because that would have just verified everyone's point. Although it is a little comedic, the whole story shows bits and pieces of anyone's everyday lives. Jealousy, stubbornness, spitefulness, and sibling rivalry are the main things implicated in this story.…

I know that I could call anyone of my sisters for help they will be there for me in an instant no matter if its problem with school, friends, life, or even because I ran out of easy mac at 3 and I need a ride to Walmart. From day one my sisters have been there for me, in the future I hope that I can be there for my sisters just as they have been there to help me. This sorority is like my family away from home. Relationships between adult siblings are unique in that they are potentially the longest human associations we will experience. Yet research in this arena is lacking; social psychologists have conducted few studies on these long-term bonds. This student finds the complexities of sibling relationships fascinating and attempts to gain greater understanding of them through her study. She designed and administered a survey to enhance awareness about how these relationships evolve and what variables may contribute to close-knit ties. Specifically she attempts to better understand how marriage and proximity affect the adult sibling bond. This student additionally argues that further research is required to deepen the currently scarce body of research.…
