Personal Narrative: Join Kappa Phi Lambda
When I meet new people, I tend to keep my guards up. I never let anyone knock down the walls I have built around me. I was afraid of betrayal and judgmental. It was difficult for me to open my heart to anyone after High School because I lost my trust in one of my closest friends. Afterwards, I always wanted to be by myself and I did not want to make any new friends. There were numerous people who came into my life and left.
One day, someone told me that I should join Kappa Phi Lambda because sisterhood was one of the three pillars. She told me that every sister would always be there for me when I have my ups and downs.
When I walked into the doors for the 1st GIM, I felt extremely welcomed by the sisters. There were numerous sisters with

My chapter of Alpha Phi Omega is Alpha Beta Zeta, located at Radford University. Each member is required to get 35 community service hours each semester. Service projects occur around the New River Valley and help a variety of community organizations. Because Alpha Phi Omega has a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, we host many projects that allow us to help them facilitate big events. Projects I have worked on include: cleaning a local daycare center, performing trail maintenance along a portion of the Appalachian Trail, collecting food for Meals on Wheels, raising money for different causes, running youth programs for Boy Scouts and 4-H events, cleaning our Adopt-A-Spot, beautifying local parks, and many other programs. Over the…

In my Sigma Chi career, the most contribution I've made is owning every position that I've held. Up until my term, no one had ever done anything with the positions of Tribune/Public Relations. In my tenure, I started a bi monthly alumni newsletter, and completely redesigned our website. We were able to better involve alumni in chapter operations as well as increased our web traffic six-fold. In Quaestor, I was able to redesign how we operated collections from brothers. With this we were able to utilize apps on phones for brothers to pay dues and other chapter expenses, this led to high collection rates and the ability to pay off a $8,100 RMF bill in one semester, all the while staying in budget constraints; this had never been done before.…

One might wonder what a fifteen-year-old was doing standing atop a thirty-yard dumpster, chainsaw in hand, and yelling, "Give me more! It can hold more!" During my ninth grade year I saw an opportunity to complete my Eagle Scout project, helping the Lenape Valley Church remove massive piles of downed pine branches fallen during an early March ice storm, creating an eyesore and complaints from the local community. The project I was tackling was Herculean, and I, compared to now, very inexperienced at leading people. But it is Boy Scout’s duty to give back to his community and I had promised that the enormous piles of branches and snow would be gone before Easter.…

Ten years ago I joined the best supportive family anyone could ever ask for. When I came to Thurgood Marshall I was a shy little girl in her shell trying to find herself. I had low self`esteem and was always worried about what others had thought about me. Being in TMA and growing up with this family has helped me mentally and emotionally especially with the passing of my uncle which was a tough thing for me to get over.…

Your hand is full of coins that are worth different values, but you only choose those with higher worth. You throw the rest on the floor or put them aside for someone else to find. Little did you know that with time those coins you left for someone else to have, made them worth more than what they used to be. My life was like a penny, not worth much to others but with help of others the bronze coin became much more than the silver coins.…

The Shared Vision I am currently in the process of crafting includes working for an organization that will challenge me to grow both in knowledge and as a person. Peace Corp is one organization that can give me what I want out of my company and organization and how I am going to get that out of my new organization. At this time I am trying to link my personal vision to the organization’s potential in order to help myself align the organization’s purpose with my own purpose (vision): and to prepare the individual groundwork for creating a shared vision. I am at a crossroads on my career path, where I can either I can decide on my personal vision and try and line up my career with that vision or I can let someone else determine what type of work…

Upon coming to Augustana I was very excited to join the Cheerleading squad. However, I was also very nervous because I was informed that there would be tryouts. The tryouts were held on the first weekend of college and it was a very exhausting day. But I was delighted to find out just two days later that I had made it! Over the past four weeks that I have been involved in the practices I have learned so much and met many new friends. The three main things that I have learned since starting cheer are new chants, a dance routine, and lots and lots of new stunts. Chants are cheers with hand motions that we perform during the game. I am still in the process of mastering all of the new chants but with the help of my teammates and the instruction…

One of the organizations I chose to be a part of is called “My Sister’s Keeper”. I was drawn to this particular organization because of the name. I am the youngest of five children and I have two older sisters that I adore. Being my sisters keeper does not just mean my family but also my friends and even people that I do not know that might have come from the same background as me. I felt that this organization would be perfect for me to get involved in because I would get an opportunity to talk to and see other girls my age that share my same interest. I also chose this because ever since my first couple of days on campus I have been hearing nothing but good things about the program. I wanted to take the information I was getting to the next…

My journey at Walden University began in December, 2012, and has taken longer than I expected. My plan was to graduate by 2017 but I am still working on my prospectus. My problem is with the losing committee members after I have gotten the approval. I am trying to find a committee member because Dr. Bush resigned a week ago, so I am searching for a committee member for the third time during my prospectus. During this time I am working on my proposal, trying to move ahead without further delays.…

One of my biggest dreams has always been to attend Temple University, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have always aspired to play for their marching band, the Temple University Diamond Marching Band, ever since I saw a YouTube video of one of their halftime performances. One of my biggest motivation in doing this is my parents; they have always pushed me to do well in school and to go to College. Another one of my motivations is a quote; “You might not make it to the top, but if you are doing what you love, there is much more happiness there than being rich or famous.” -Tony Hawk. The biggest thing that stands in my way of attending is money. No matter what College or University I end up going to, it is going to cost a lot of money…

Through the years I've been in school there have been many lessons I have learned. These can be described in three standard phrases, mind over matter, anything is possible, and treat people the way you want to be treated. All of these things came into play when I was in elementary school and high school. Coming into college I have been able to apply these rules to my advancements in school. All these lessons comes in to play when you’re in college because there are a lot of things that mess with your head and distract you like grades, sleep, or people back home. These phrases allow somebody to stay focused on what is in front of them.…

Michelle, your college path is similar to mine. I started out at my local community college and earned my associates and then I went off to MSU. After a year there I learned that I really didn't like my major so I took a year off and moved back home. To pay the bills I started substitute teaching and instantly fell in love with it. The next year I enrolled at GVSU and earned by bachelors in education. I had planned on getting a teaching job and going straight for my masters. Unfortunately, when I graduated most of the schools were handing out pink slips so I took a job in another industry. Within 2 years I was making what I would as a teacher with 30 years in so I never did make the move back into teaching. Over the next 10 years I got married…
