Women:
Foundation:
At foundation level women face many barriers when trying to participate in sport. In football women may come up against cultural barriers which could stop them from playing this could be because of the stereotypical perception that they should be at home and that it is an unfeminine thing to do this could stop then from participating, also they may have been brought up in a very feminine world so they are more likely to play something like netball rather than football, another cultural barrier could be the persons religion as some Christians will not play on a Sunday which is when most foundation level teams play.
Another barrier which women could face at foundation level would be social barriers, these could come up again due to the primarily masculine nature of the sport, therefore younger women and girls may not want to participate because they will be embarrassed and could get bullied because of it. Also because there are very few well known role models in the women’s game younger girls will have no one to look up to.
An Additional barrier that women could face at this level could be an economic one, as even though the players at this level only need basic equipment for example shin pads, they still need to be paid for in order to allow them to play, this is a barrier because there may be many girls who are underprivileged and cannot afford the basic equipment needed.
The final barrier which could stop women from participating at this level would be the educational factors, this could be a barrier as in schools, especially primary schools, football is not going to be sport girls do very often, therefore by the time they reach secondary school they wont know the basic techniques needed to play, and will only start learning then and even at secondary schools there will not be that much football on offer for females.
