There are times when people are put in the position in which they must choose between being selfless and helping others or not doing anything and only worrying about themselves. If the people choose to disregard their own safety and put another person’s life before theirs, it shows how ethically responsible they are. For an action to be ethically responsible, it must be done out of someone’s own intention to ensure the wellbeing of someone else. Ethical responsibility is defined as the obligation to do something that is morally sound in order to make sure a person is in good physical and emotional health. What was left after the war was separated into three kingdoms. One was ruled by dark magic, one by light, and one by both. Rowen is the king of Arania, which happens to be ruled by both light and dark magic. Rowen is a smart, generous man that has ruled his kingdom without problems for years. Everything in his life and kingdom is running as it should until he meets two women that will decide the fate of all three kingdoms. This isn’t the normal love triangle that we see in many stories. Lothessa is the princess of Onalle, which is ruled by dark magic and Mirath is the princess of Giladen, which is ruled by light magic. A curse was placed on Rowen’s kingdom that prevents any ruler from Arania from producing heirs if they marry someone from Onalle or Giladen. After meeting both women on separate occasions, Rowen begins to crave the company of both. What he doesn’t know is that choosing either woman could destroy everything that was built after the war. Choosing Lothessa will put his kingdom in danger of being controlled by dark magic, but will break the curse that is put on Arania that prevents the kingdoms from working together to create a better future. The way in which women are represented and defined throughout Western culture is leading somewhat of a controversy between the male and female genders. Within the chapter, “Dreams, Fears, Idols”, by Simone de Beauvior, she expands upon the numerous problematic ways in which a woman is represented in these cultures. In most situations within fairytales or short stories, women are portrayed as the “damsel in distress” or the “weak link”, meaning that they are powerless and are always easily captured or in the worse case scenario, murdered. In the original “Little Red Riding Hood” Fairytale, written by Charles Perrault in the 1600s, he takes the approach of expressing how Little Red, a powerless, innocent child roaming the forest is looking to find her grandmother’s house. Whereas, the fairytale “Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf”, written by Roald Dahl, takes the approach of the stereotypical Little Red Riding Hood fairytale where Little Red battles the stereotypical “damsel in distress” type female character and shows that she is more powerful than her appearance and age is showing. In this version of the story, Little Red skins the wolf and makes him into a fur coat, which shows that not all females are weak and powerless as they are all hyped up to be. “Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf” and the points and theories made by Beauvior, suggests that women can be equally superior and heroic to men and that they should not constantly be misjudged by society which makes them seem co-dependent on men, when in reality, they are not.…
