2. What is the writer’s thesis? What unique angle on the topic does the thesis present? What suggestions can you offer for improving the wording of the thesis?…
- again, the first sentence is a TOPIC sentence, an exact statement of what the paragraph is about. Going to point 2 in the thesis, the topic sentence reads…
Anna’s thesis clearly stated what she was going to talk about throughout her essay. In her first paragraph she talks about what people don’t really seem to notice, that people really do go hungry in America. She opens her essay up nicely to what she is going to talk about during the rest of her essay. She focuses on what she is going to talk about and never goes off topic. She uses textual evidence…
Throughout my life, I have had opportunities to volunteer for numerous causes within my community; however, my years of service through Community Memorial Hospital and my high school Junior Optimist Club have helped me to uncover my compassion for others.…
The following research paper covers the problems nonprofits have recruiting volunteers and the best practices they should use. This is an issue with many nonprofits and lends itself to deep discussion and understanding. This topic interests me because I like to actively participate in community events and leading or creating events that will need to recruit volunteers. This paper is geared towards community and nonprofit leaders who are in need of recruiting advice.…
It was about two different groups of volunteers who attended, and we supported with handing out food to the people who need it. Has a community, we cannot just sit at home and act like the things that are occurring in the society does not affect us as well. Helping the people the community and seeing how some people need these kinds of organizations shows that we as a community are doing the job. The people are part of the society, and as a college student in the Public Administration field, it showed me that to move ahead as a society we have to carry everybody along. Also, by providing these resources, it keeps many of these people out of the street; and it makes the community improve as a whole. After seeing how this organization helps the community and also hearing what people say that we the society are not helping the poor, I believe that it is…
Sometimes it isn’t easy trying to find the time to serve your community in the way it counts, but the action does not have to be world changing, it is the fact that someone’s life was impacted because of your work. Since I have been volunteering at the Adam’s County Regional Medical Center, I have learned some very valuable lessons. The most important one is that the smallest action could make someone’s day. There was one day I was waiting with a woman in the hallway while her husband was getting an x-ray. She continued to tell me everything that was happening in her life both the ups and the downs.…
By giving your time and showing compassion for the people in need you will help them to feel comfortable getting the assistance that is so necessary to their survival and health. Volunteering is a way to help that has the ability to give back. There are many great benefits to volunteer work, and not only by helping people in need. According to Shayla in Benefits of Volunteering in College, volunteering can also "build your network", "strengthen your resume", and of course give you the knowledge to better understand the people you are giving your time to (Shayla). Building your network will be a vital part of life when trying to find jobs, internships, and make business connections. People you meet through volunteering have the ability to forever affect your life and may well continue to be a part of your life for years to come. What better place to meet people who share the same drive to help others as you do than at an organization who helps feed Americans in need? These hours will not go unnoticed on your resume either. "Scholarship committees love to learn how youth are helping their communities." These hours will not only be valued by the people they help, as you spend time helping others your outlook on life is changed by the skills and real life experience you gain from it. While giving your time you will see that people who are in need are no different from…
In the article it says “negates the spirit of volunteering itself.” With this it causes students to feel like it’s almost a “bad” thing because they see it as a job that has to be done instead of actually learning how to give back to the community because you desire to do it. Volunteering would come off as “forced work” to students as well as mandatory everyday work. When students have so much going on it’s almost impossible to keep up with community service and other activities going on in their life.…
What is volunteering? To volunteer is to spend your time in helping others, either at schools, churches, or other charitable venues. Volunteering can also be helping out around the house, mowing the lawn, or doing chores that most people do on a daily basis.…
Having the opportunity to make new, diverse friends around the community impacted me as a person. The people I met not only included the people I served, but also included the people I worked alongside of me in the food pantry. Since I volunteered at the same day and time every week, I was able to become familiar with many new people. In fact, many of these people were even able to connect to my life. One day I had a conversation with a man I volunteered with numerous times whose name was Steve.…
Donating, giving, and sharing are three related values that the majority of households in America all claim to practice and believe in. If this is true, then why is it so often that charities are underfunded? The problem is that many people seek happiness for themselves over the happiness of others. I believe that this is natural in human beings. When we are already so busy taking care of ourselves, I think we forget that other people could use a hand as well. Another underlying factor may be that many of us are not raised around charity. Instead of volunteering at shelters, America’s youth is often found at sports practices or at home fidgeting with technology, and until recently, I was no different.…
For this paper I took a look at possible volunteer opportunities in my local community. I gave examples of what opportunities were available and how to find information on how to become a volunteer. I choose to use google as my research criterion and found a very resourceful website with the information I needed. As you read my paper you will find information about being a volunteer, what benefits it has, and what opportunities are available. Below I listed some great information about becoming a volunteer.…
1. What point is the writer trying to make? Why do you suppose her thesis is never explicitly stated?…
My experiences serving others have exposed me to the issues my community faces and have shown me that I can make a difference. My first experience working with underserved populations in my community was serving food at Union Station Homeless Services’ Thanksgiving Dinner in the Park in high school. This made me step out of my comfort zone and interact with a group I was unfamiliar with. Through serving food and interacting with homeless and low-income families, I saw that my small actions could brighten one’s day. This inspired me to start Heal L.A. at UCLA with some of my classmates. We wanted to help the significant homeless population surrounding our campus in any way possible. What started as buying meals and conversing with them has grown…
