Practical life activities give the child an understanding of his/her environment and how it works.
The child enjoys all types of work. Child also enjoys keeping the environment beautiful for all to use.
This work builds the child's self-esteem, making him feel of value. It may seem like they are "playing" when they are table scrubbing or polishing silver, but through these types of activities they are becoming prepared to do the "real" learning. Practical Life activities also have a strong fine motor component and so are valuable in developing and extending children's fine motor abilities as well as their cognitive development.
During the Mid Year Conference if parents want to know 3 activities and the importance from the practical life shelves, then what might be appropriate for 3 year old child?
First, I’ll choose one to one wet pouring with handle or without the handle depend on the child’s abilities. This activity helps to develops small motor skills, order, concentration, coordination, independence. Child needs the either whole hand grasp or pincer grip depend on the handle of cup. If child master with this material without spill anything then child can pouring own milk or water at the house. Second, I’ll choose buttoning frame. The Dressing Frames are enable children to learn how to manage common fasteners, such as zippers, buttons, snaps, belt buckles and shoelaces. To help them learn how to unbutton and button themselves. This activity helps to develops small motor skills, order,

concentration, coordination, movement and independence. With these skills, your child will soon be ready to take care of much of his daily clothing needs. Three year old child to dress himself from head to toe—if he’s given enough time.

    I have chosen a painting activity. The children would be given a variety of colours and asked to paint a picture of their choice. They would be able to use their imaginations and creative skills to paint a picture possibly showing their emotion in the painting. “A creative activity involves expression of imaginative skills.” (Babies and Young Children, nelson thornes, page 99) This activity could be for children aged 2 to 11 years and the purpose of this activity would be to develop creative skills and also help with fine motor skills (this would be for the younger children), it would also encourage social skills because children tend to talk to each other when they are at a table. The activities are set up to interest the children so they want to do them. Children enjoy getting messy and most children like to paint pictures, the paints would be set up in the middle of the table with paper around the edge, there would be aprons laid over the chair and this will show the children they are possibly going to get messy. The teacher would have to be aware of health and safety, this would consist of making sure any spillages of water and paint were cleared up straight away to avoid anyone slipping over, chairs would be removed to stop anyone falling over, the teacher would ask the children to be sensible. “One of the duties and responsibilities of early years practitioners is to keep children safe.“ (Child Care and Education, Penny Tassoni, Page 258) The role of the practitioner is to provide all the equipment, ask the children to paint a picture of their choice and to supervise the activity. The practitioner would not help the children with the activity because the aim of the activity is for the children to use their imagination and create a picture using the paints.     The "lifestyle/exposure theory" was developed by Hindelang, Gottfredson, and Garofalo (1978:243; e.g., see Goldstein, 1994; Maxfield, 1987:275; Miethe, Stafford, and Long, 1987:184). This model of criminal events links victimization risks to the daily activities of specific individuals (Goldstein, 1994:54; Kennedy and Forde, 1990:208).Lifestyles are patterned, regular, recurrent, prevalent, or "routine activities" (Robinson, 1997b; also see Cohen and Felson, 1979; Felson, 1994; Hindelang, Gottfredson, and Garofalo, 1978:241; Garofalo, 1987:24, 39). Lifestyles consist of the activities that people engage in on a daily basis, including both obligatory and discretionary activities. LeBeau and Coulson (1996:3; also see LeBeau and Corcoran, 1990) assert that:The former are activities that must be undertaken while the latter because they are pursued by choice are called discretionary. 'An activity is discretionary if there is a greater chance of choice than constraint, and obligatory if there is a greater degree of constraint than choice" (Chapin, 1974:38). Both activities have a duration, position in time, a place in a sequence of events, and a fixed location or path in space (Chapin, 1974:37).Kennedy and Forde (1990:208) summarized the lifestyle/exposure model as "lifestyle, encompassing differences in age, sex, marital status, family income, and race, influences daily routines and vulnerability to criminal victimization, resulting in the fact that "Victimization is not evenly distributed randomly across space and time -- there are high-risk locations and high-risk time periods" (Garofalo, 1987:26). "Lifestyle patterns influence (a) the amount of exposure to places and times with varying risks of victimization, and (b) the prevalence of associations with others who are more or less likely to commit crimes."     The 1998 film “Return to Paradise” corresponds with Kohlberg’s and Gilligan’s theories on moral development. The movie shows a struggle between multiple characters that are in search of doing the right thing. The three characters I chose to write about are Sheriff, Tony, and Beth. Sheriff and Tony are dealing with very similar moral dilemmas throughout the movie. They are both asked to return to Malaysia, where they recently vacationed, in order to spare someone’s life. They are placed in this dilemma because on their vacation they were involved with drugs along with another character Lewis, who eventually got caught with the drugs and is now facing the death penalty. Although they both have different priorities, Sheriff and Tony face the same moral dilemma of self-sacrifice in order to spare Lewis’ life. The third character I chose to write about is Beth, who faces a complete different moral dilemma. Beth is a lawyer representing Lewis who is determined to find equal punishment for everyone. She is persistent throughout the movie on convincing Sheriff and Tony to return to Malaysia. Later in the movie we actually find out that Beth is Lewis’ sister, which only intensifies her dilemma of convincing the men to go back and save Lewis’ life.…
