Why Was Fathepur Sikri built ?
In Akbar's time the site was occupied by a small village of stonecutters and was the home of Shaikh Salim Chishti, a Muslim astrologer and Sufi Saint. In 1568 Akbar visited the Shaikh to ask for the birth of an heir. The Shaikh replied that an heir would be born soon. Sure enough, Akbar's wife gave birth to a boy on August 30, 1569. In gratitude, Akbar named the boy Salim after the astrologer, and, two years later decided to move the capital to Sikri.

In gratitude to his former religious advisor and to Allah, Akbar set about building what he theorized as the "perfect city," one that would represent the power of his empire, the meaning of God's message to humanity, and would ensure perfect harmony. Above all, the city would represent Islam. He completed his new city, Fatehpur Sikri, in 1578. The city contains a mosque, a palace, a lavish and huge garden, a worship hall for Din-i Ilahi, and, finally, a tomb for Shayk Salim Chishti in the great mosque itself. The city served for a while as Akbar's capital and lavish court. It was, however, placed far from source of water and the "perfect city" and "perfect symbol of Islam" was abandoned forever shortly…

The term propaganda is sometimes brought up in casual conversation, however, many do not realize the potential power that propaganda can have. Can be defined propaganda as the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person. In the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, propaganda is shown to indeed cause harm. A various sections of the book will be conducted in order to demonstrate three aspects of propaganda: how it is used by Snowball to positively obtain the control of Animal Farm; how Napoleon uses it in a sinister way to exile Snowball and his paradigm and to show Napoleon's propaganda as a scapegoat for his own problems. Again, Merriam-Webster states propaganda as the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person. First, it can be seen how Snowball uses propaganda to effectively assume leadership of Animal Farm. After the rebellion, Snowball took control and broadcast his ideas upon desperate ears. Vote for Snowball and the three day week... (p.34) Snowball spread propaganda that would promote Animalism by building a windmill. This windmill was to be used for luxuries that would make life better for everyone on Animal Farm. Snowball also said that although the construction would be difficult all animals would benefit in the long run. His positive attitude, ideas and propaganda excited the animals so much that they wanted to build it, until the demise of Snowball and his crimes of treason. Napoleon decided to use propaganda in a negative manner to destroy the reputation of Snowball's righteousness. During a vote when the animals of Animal Farm were to decide the fate of the windmill, the animals seemed to be siding with Snowball. That is when Napoleon implemented his wicked plot to rule Animal Farm. Napoleon exiled Snowball from the farm by means of…

The Qutb complex is one of those historic sites which can extend beyond its own historical moment to carry a much larger symbolic statement. Its ruins are presented today as a part of "Indian" antiquity, a part of each Indian’s inheritance which can be cherished. The Qutb complex situated in Mehrauli, Delhi consists of an array of monuments and buildings which stand as a testimony to the affluent historical trends and the radiant culture of Medieval India, the most famous of which is the five-storeyed, and 239 feet sandstone tower Qutb Minar. Apart from the architectural wonder Qutb Minar, other prominent monuments in the precincts of the Qutb complex include Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, i.e, one of the oldest existing mosques in India, the Alai Darwaza, the Alai Minar, the tomb of Iltutmish and the magnificent Iron Pillar. My endeavour will be to illuminate vital architectural attributes of each monument and subsequently proceed to historical interpretations by the historians from these monuments and their relative connotations in the sustenance of Delhi Sultanate. For a better understanding of the diverse historical trends of the Qutb complex, it would be expedient to have a brief knowledge of the history of Qutb complex.…
