Preparing to Write and Drafting the Paper
English Comp 1
December 16, 2012 When it came to writing all these papers I gave myself time to think about the topics and tried to make sure I understood them before I sat down to write the essays. I have never really been a strong writer when it came to essays in high school it was not an easy task for me. I never had a good strategy when it came to actually writing the papers and putting everything in order. I figured out how to stop worrying so much about getting the assignment turned in on time because that would always stop me from thinking more about the paper then it would turn out bad and I would even up getting a bad grade which would make me feel horrible. I figured out that I should worry more about the paper and then I would be able to focus on the paper so I would be getting it done on time as well. My strategy for writing a paper requires me write a rough draft, take sometime to reread it and then type it making sure everything is spelled correctly. Then making sure all my grammar is correct through out my entire paper also, making sure that I have the correct punctuation everywhere its needed. Then after typing up everything I go through the paper one last time to make sure there isn’t anything I need to add or take out which is usually where I see where I need to change my sentence structure and add certain works or move sentences to different paragraphs. With this class it’s actually been a good experience for me when it came to writing papers and trying to get everything done either early or on time. My writing process has improved with taking this class because I have actually taken time to figure out what I’m going to write about when it comes to the subject and I take care of the assignment in a timely manner. These essays all seem to me that they can be directed to the same audience and can be given with the same enthusiasm because they can be directed to some one in their 20s or 30s because it talks about taking an online courses

First of all, while watching their semester long journey through this writing course, I learned a few pointers and lessons. Throughout this video I noticed that some of the students procrastinated on their papers. Arpan for example would go for strolls around campus, hang out with friends and even play video games when he should have been drafting or finalizing his papers. I learned from his mistakes and realized that procrastination is not an option. You need to use the time to fabricate ideas, outline, revise and finalize assignments to produce the best paper possible. Whenever Nneka was given an assignment, she would regularly develop and continue to revise drafts that would be examined by her professor. All that extra work paid off when she received a satisfactory grade due to the fact that she put in the effort.…

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

During the course of students’ educational careers we come across many assignments that require us to write an essay on a specific topic in which we use different writing methods and steps to develop a completed paper. In this essay I will compare and contrast the writing techniques of Richard Marius and the writing methods I use when I write an essay. I am glad that I took this composition course. Before I took this class, I would say that I was just an average writer. I have learned new skills that expand my writing above the level it was. I have also learned more about myself as a writer and what is working and what is not working with my writing process.…

When I first started this class I was very anxious about what to expect. I was hesitant and unsure if I am going to make it through, I doubted myself, every week I wanted to give up, mainly due to the fact as English is not my first language. As the class progressed, I felt more and more confident because of the different resources offered by the professor. Those resources were a very good aid in my writing. For example, in my first essay, the article written from the perspective of Donald Trump’s hair, played an important role in my decision of choosing a topic.…

Once my pre-writing rituals are taken care of, I start the writing process by researching tips for the type of paper I need to write. For scholarships, I Google common essay mistakes and advice from scholarship committee members. For analytical or persuasive essays I track down advice for putting together a solid, logical outline. For comedic narratives, I browse Reddit for funny posts and study what makes that particular story funny. When I have locked down the type of essay I am dealing with, the colored pens come out and I regurgitate everything on my mind for 5 to 10 minutes. This will involve my ideas on what would make a good essay; what…

This class has impacted my writing skills by teaching me new skills on pre-writing and first drafts. My biggest issue with writing comes from not being a strong reader. This class has given me the opportunity to not only improve my writing but, also learn a lot about myself as a writer. I had never thought about how I approached the act of writing and what I felt about writing before coming to this class. I always tried my best to follow the guidelines and wrote typical essays with introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. English 1102 gave me the liberty and occasion to understand the purpose of writing and my feelings on writing. I have come to a realization this semester that I dislike academic papers because they restrict my thoughts and creativity. I like writing papers where I can manipulate the structure and confuse the readers. I also like getting emotions out of anyone who reads my writing pieces. My readers can hate my writing, like it, relate to it, or absolutely despise it as long as they feel something towards it. A scientific article rarely gets any emotions out to its readers.…

    How to Write a Paper

Often this will be decided for you, but if not, try to choose something you're interested in or, better yet, passionate about. It will make the essay easier to write. On the other hand you could choose a stand you disagree with because it will allow you to see flaws in your argument more easily. You can also think of your thesis statement at this point, but it shouldn't be set in stone since it may be elaborated or changed as you do your research in the next step. A thesis statement is what your essay is attempting to explain and prove. Make sure your thesis statement explains everything you will talk about in the essay. It should also be no longer than 1 sentence. You can brainstorm a few different thesis statements and use them to guide your research. Some examples:…
