where it all began. The Cherokees took their case to the U.S. Supreme Court and succedded. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Cherokees. The Supreme Court did not believe that the Government should force them to move off of their own land. The victory didn't last long though. President Andrew Jackson ignored the Supreme Court ruling and directed the Army to force them to leave anyway. The Army followed the orders of President Andrew Jackson and forcibally removed them.
I think it's disgusting that we forced Indian tribes to relocate. It wasn't enough that we forced ourselves upon them. The Indians believe their lands are sacred and we we violated thier beliefs. We ruined thier traditional lives and sent them to foreign land to start all over. They walked without proper footwear, food, or clothing. The weather conditions were not favorable. Many died because of our greed and ignorance. Thousands of Indians died because of starvation, diseases, and the cold weather condtions. This is a sad part of American history.
